Job Description

As a Mechanical Design Engineer – High-Integrity Pressure Systems, you will join an advanced engineering team supporting the development of critical mechanical systems within the nuclear energy sector. You'll design and realize complex pressure equipment for high-integrity environments, contributing to sustainable energy technologies. Responsibilities include leading the detailed design of pressure equipment, developing engineering solutions from concept to final definition, and working collaboratively within integrated project teams. You will navigate evolving requirements through problem-solving and cross-functional coordination, contribute to technical governance, and support product lifecycle activities.
Must have:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience in pressure equipment design and integrity assessment
  • Familiarity with design codes (e.g. ASME, EN13445, PD5500)
  • Knowledge of materials, fabrication methods, and design-for-manufacture
  • Proficient with CAD and digital design tools
  • Strong communication skills and teamwork
Good to have:
  • Understanding of nuclear design codes and safety classification
  • Experience with verification, validation, and technical substantiation
  • Familiarity with supplier engagement and manufacturing documentation review
  • Background in systems engineering or product development

Job Description

What will you be doing? 

As a Mechanical Design Engineer – High-Integrity Pressure Systems, you will join our advanced engineering team supporting the development of critical mechanical systems within the nuclear energy sector. You’ll play a key role in designing and realising complex pressure equipment used in demanding, high-integrity environments—contributing directly to the technologies shaping the future of sustainable energy.

Your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Lead or support the detailed design of pressure equipment such as reactor vessels, heat exchangers, filters, and tanks.
  • Develop engineering solutions from concept to final definition, including 3D models, drawings, documentation, and design justifications.
  • Work collaboratively within integrated project teams, alongside suppliers and manufacturing experts, to deliver cost-effective and technically robust designs.
  • Navigate evolving requirements through structured problem-solving, iterative design development, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Contribute to technical governance processes, including peer reviews and design risk assessments.
  • Support product lifecycle activities including manufacturing readiness, integration planning, and maintaining digital traceability.

Qualifications

Experience, skills and qualifications required: 

Required:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in pressure equipment design and integrity assessment
  • Familiarity with relevant design codes (e.g. ASME, EN13445, PD5500)
  • Knowledge of materials, fabrication methods, and design-for-manufacture principles
  • Proficient with CAD and digital design tools
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams

Desirable:

  • Understanding of nuclear design codes and safety classification processes
  • Experience with verification, validation, and technical substantiation
  • Familiarity with supplier engagement and manufacturing documentation review
