Job Description

As a modeler, you will be responsible for creating interior or exterior sets for animation, VFX, or print projects, adapting to various artistic directions. You will build 3D environments and props based on 2D references in various styles, unfold and optimize UVs, create textures, assemble sets and props, execute corrections, recommend pipeline improvements, optimize models for animation, provide animators with optimized versions of sets, and ensure models are optimized for rendering. You'll be expected to organize work and prepare presentations, and provide progress reports.
Good To Have:

  • A level of comfort with the Linux / Unix environment

As a modeler, you create interior or exterior sets for our animation, vfx or print projects and adapt to all artistic directions. You model in 3D worlds that are sometimes cartoonish, sometimes realistic and are often very detailed, sometimes minimalist, but always done with attention to detail.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create 3D environments and props according to 2D illustrated references in a variety of styles;
  • Unfold and optimize UVs in collaboration with texture artists;
  • Create textures to complexify model geometry (displacement, normal, etc.);
  • Assemble sets and props into Houdini scenes optimized for animation and rendering;
  • Execute corrections as requested by supervisors and/or the director using analytical skills;
  • Proactively recommend ongoing pipeline improvements; 
  • Work with riggers to optimize models for animation;
  • Provide animators with a light version of sets and props in order to optimize animation work;
  • Work with lighting designers to ensure models are optimized for rendering;
  • Execute corrections as requested by supervisors and/or the director using analytical skills;
  • Organize work and prepare presentation elements for validations;
  • Provide supervisors and producers progress reports on an "as needed" basis.

WE'D LIKE TO MEET YOU IF YOU HAVE:

  • A degree in a 3D animation program;
  • Experience in 3D modeling;
  • Experience in film, advertising, TV (asset);
  • An excellent artistic eye for design, architecture, harmony of form and proportion;
  • A good command of topology;
  • Thorough knowledge of post-production techniques;
  • Knowledge of Shotgrid (asset);
  • A level of comfort with the Linux / Unix environment (asset).

YOUR WORK TOOLS:

  • Modeling with Maya
  • Sculpting with zBrush
  • Knowledge of Houdini, Blender, 3DSmax

You will be part of a small group of modeling specialists. Depending on the project, you will take full responsibility for these tasks or share them with your colleagues around the world. You collaborate with a group of 5 to 30 3D artists depending on the scale of the production.
