Must have:
  • Active DOE Q-level or Top-Secret clearance.
  • Advanced degree in a scientific/engineering discipline.
  • Significant experience in program/project management.
  • Technical knowledge in warhead design or related field.
  • Ability to build/maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Expertise in managing milestones and budgets.
  • Ability to act independently with trusted judgment.
Good to have:
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) level knowledge of Nuclear Weapon Engineering/Physics.
  • Advanced degree(s) in Engineering/Physics.
  • Experience with project management tools and techniques.
  • Experience sustaining relationships with other divisions, directorates, laboratories, plants, NNSA management, other institutions across the DOE and DOD enterprise.

Pay Range

$325,560 - $414,984 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Job Description

We have two openings for Deputy Program Managers (DPM). You will manage complex programmatic activities while fostering collaboration with diverse stakeholders and driving the successful execution of critical milestones. As a key leader within the Program Management Office (PMO), you will have the opportunity to shape program strategies, ensure operational efficiency, and contribute to the success of a high-impact national security initiative. This position is within the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Directorate.

These positions may offer a hybrid schedule, which includes the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week, after a probationary period. The specifics of the hybrid schedule, including the exact number of days required in the office and virtual work options, may vary based on the needs of the team and the organization.

In this role, you will

  • Support the Program Manager and lead the team to execute the program in Phase 6.3 and transition to Phase 6.4 and beyond - with an emphasis on warhead certification and production.
  • Define and fill key positions, establish roles and responsibilities, and prioritize activities to meet program goals.
  • Organize reviews, meetings, and other activities to enhance program efficiency and executability.
  • Interact regularly with the Federal Program Office (FPO), stakeholders within DoD, Production Agencies (e.g., Y-12, Kansas City National Security Campus, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Pantex), and Sandia National Laboratories.
  • Facilitate monthly meetings with the SD Office and provide updates on program progress through the Project Reporting System (PRS).
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful execution of program objectives.
  • Oversee and manage programmatic execution, to include project management leadership for the overall program, forward financial planning through the FYNSP, and execution year financial guidance and management.  
  • Oversee and manage milestones, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of Federal Program Office (FPO) commitments.
  • Provide PMO oversight of the monthly reporting process to the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
  • Deliver high-level briefings and updates to senior management, influencing program direction and decision-making.
  • Support the Program Manager by covering activities during scheduling conflicts and providing strategic guidance on program priorities.
  • Identify and implement options for improved efficiency and program executability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Advanced degree in scientific or engineering discipline, or equivalent level of education and related experience.
  • Significant experience in program or project management roles.
  • Deep technical knowledge in primary, secondary, warhead design or a related field, with the ability to make informed decisions and provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME).
  • Proven experience in managing complex projects with broad scope, including technical, financial, and staffing components.
  • Strong ability to define roles, prioritize activities, and implement strategies for operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including Federal Program Offices, Production Agencies, and laboratories.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with experience in writing reports, presenting updates, and influencing decision-making at senior levels.
  • Expertise in managing milestones, deliverables, and budgets, with a strong track record of meeting deadlines and achieving program objectives.
  • Ability to act independently under broad direction, with trusted judgment in both technical and managerial capacities.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) level knowledge of Nuclear Weapon Engineering or Nuclear Weapon Physics.
  • Advanced degree(s) in Engineering or Physics.
  • Expertise and experience with project management tools and techniques, including work planning, scheduling, cost estimating, analyzing, and managing budgets, project control reporting, and Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
  • Extensive experience sustaining productive relationships with other divisions, directorates, laboratories, plants, NNSA management, other institutions across the DOE and DOD enterprise.
