The Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Landing Page teams define and build features that optimize the way customers browse our inventory and help them easily find and reach relevant eBay pages when searching on search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. With literally hundreds of millions of products listed on eBay globally at any time, the scale at which eBay has to consider search engine optimization puts our team in a unique position to innovate and provide immediate value to the business.
The SEO Landing Page Platform holds the buyer intent data definition for our category and model landing pages. These pages serve as important destinations for buyers who come from search engines like Google as well as those who are browsing the eBay site. The Linking Services connect those pages and enable them to show up in navigational elements like the breadcrumb and category navigation. The operational tools provide the interface for manual intervention and eventual automation of those operational tasks.
We are looking for exceptional Engineers, who take pride in creating simple solutions to apparently-complex problems. Our Engineering tasks typically involve at least one of the following:
Design, implement, and maintain backend services that manage the full lifecycle of SEO pages
Build and expose robust APIs that handle shopping page data for downstream consumers (frontend rendering, SEO crawlers, analytics)
Integrate SEO metadata, taxonomy updates, and internal linking rules into the data model and processing pipelines
Develop automated workflows to ingest, validate, and synchronize page information from catalog feeds, vendor systems, and content management tools
Monitor service performance, set up alerts for latency or error spikes, and troubleshoot issues to ensure high availability and data accuracy
Ensure page data integrity by implementing schema validations, consistency checks, and versioning strategies
Collaborate with infrastructure and DevOps teams to automate deployments, manage containerized environments, and optimize resource utilization
Write clean, well-documented code (e.g., Java, Python, or Node.js) for data transformations, caching layers, and background jobs
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for service architecture, API contracts, operational runbooks, and troubleshooting procedures
Design, deliver, and maintain significant features in our SEO Platform, ensuring reliable creation and updates of the data models
Optimize backend performance to achieve the required throughput and low latency for page rendering, SEO crawls, and data retrieval
Come up with a sound technical strategy for schema design, caching, and API scalability—taking into consideration project goals, timelines, and SEO impact
Take an active part in knowledge sharing across the organization—both teaching and learning from others about backend best practices, SEO considerations, and platform architecture
Implement and enforce data integrity checks, indexing strategies, and partitioning schemes to guarantee accurate, up-to-date records
Assist in capacity planning and forecasting for future growth to ensure services scale seamlessly as the catalog expands
Recommend and execute software upgrades, migrations, or architecture improvements to keep the stack current, secure, and performant
Maintain thorough, up-to-date documentation covering database schemas, deployment processes, and troubleshooting procedures
Mentor and onboard junior engineers, sharing best practices for backend development, data modeling, and SEO-focused engineering considerations
Align engineering deliverables with cross-functional SEO initiatives, ensuring technical work supports strategic business goals and performance KPIs
Passion for technical excellence and leadership in engineering initiatives
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science (or equivalent professional experience)
7+ years of experience designing and delivering complex backend services and/or data pipelines at scale
Expert-level understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, Object-Oriented Design, and software architecture principles
Proven track record of production-grade coding in Java and Python/Scala, with experience integrating advanced technologies
Strong mentorship and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical direction and foster cross-functional alignment
