WGU Academy uses a scrum-based, design thinking framework to create accessible, transformative experiences that ready learners for success. We are mission-driven, evidence-based, and laser-focused on student success. As a Multimedia Designer on Academy’s Product Design and Development Team, you will create engaging, user-facing, mobile-first, media-rich content for WGU’s non-degree, online, professional skill-building Certificate programs. This work includes illustrations, interactives, animations, videos, and audio files. You will leverage your innovative thinking, creativity, sophisticated skills, and entrepreneurial spirit to contribute to world-class learning experiences on tight timelines. As part of an agile development team with a Content Design Writer and an Instructional Technologist, you will create best-in-class programs for Rising Talent.

Job Profile Summary:
The Multimedia Content Designer will create engaging student-facing media for online and mobile delivery, including illustrations, animation, video, and audio. They will work as part of an agile design team to select and design appropriate digital content that’s fit for purpose, iterate on the design, and ultimately develop production-ready media for inclusion in eLearning courses and modules
The Multimedia Content Designer must be an innovative thinker willing to deliver creative solutions with a quick turnaround time. The individual will work with a team versed learning experience design, front- and back-end development, assessment, and writing—together creating transformational experiences for students in WGU’s non-degree, professional skill-building Certificate programs. This individual will understand how to promote correct messaging through multimedia.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Working with other creatives in a sprint fashion, you will be expected to expertly handle multiple projects simultaneously, each at various stages of development. You will be designing prototypes, collecting feedback, iterating drafts, presenting ideas, attending meetings and sprint ceremonies, and working on projects that align to interests and key priorities for the organization. There will be opportunities to build out systems and improve processes.
Designs and produces functional and beautiful digital media, including illustrations, animation, video, and audio
Works closely with the assigned Learning Experience Designer and Instructional Technologist to ensure media are aligned with desired product goals and outcomes
Rapidly produce multiple possible approaches for usability testing, A/B testing and stakeholder presentations
Works with development team to ensure technical feasibility of designs; works with front-end developers to leverage the latest widely adopted HTML/CSS capabilities and SVG as appropriate
Produces final media within style guidelines that is accessible and optimized for web and mobile delivery.
Ensures design and content development are completed on time and within budget and meet standards of quality
Collaborates with peers to apply and drive best-practices in media production

Develops and maintains a collaborative relationship with all appropriate internal and external stakeholders
Stays current with design trends and emerging media technologies

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
Expert in design, layout, and visual communication for various assets that may include (and is not limited to) slide decks, templates, infographics, videos, motion graphics, webpages, worksheets, iconography).
Experience in multimedia design and production for web, mobile and/or eLearning including still graphics, animation, audio and video
Expert-level proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite and digital design tools including video, animation, and audio editing software.
Excellent written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively and creatively in a fast-paced, agile environment
Basic understanding of latest responsive web design (HTML and CSS) as it applies across different browsers and screen resolutions
Conceptual knowledge of web/software development
Strong attention to detail and a feeling of pride and ownership of the quality of our product

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field
2+ years of professional-level design and media production work
Strong portfolio of work required
Department Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of similar work experience in media, educational technology, or marketing, or an advanced degree in digital media, adult education, instructional design or similar, without experience
Basic awareness of accessibility standards and inclusive content practices
Preferred Qualifications:
Stronger consideration given to candidates sharing a strong portfolio of work
LMS/UI Design experience
Experience with OpenEdX or other LMS/LXP/LRS platforms
Familiarity with Articulate 360, h5p, 7taps, and other courseware
Experience in multimedia, motion, and graphic design production for eLearning
Familiarity with developing game-based learning experiences
Experience with mobile-first design and development strategies
