Job Description

KMGH, an ABC affiliate in Denver, Colorado, is seeking a Multimedia Journalist to tell impactful stories. The role involves researching, writing, capturing visuals, and editing compelling content for multiple platforms, covering breaking news and community issues. Responsibilities include developing story ideas, verifying information, writing stories, shooting and editing video, appearing on-air for taped interviews or narration, delivering live reports, and collaborating with photographers and news producers. The position requires computer literacy, videography and non-linear editing experience, knowledge of broadcast camera equipment, proficiency with editing software like Final Cut Pro, strong writing skills in broadcast and AP style, and the ability to post content online.

Are you ready to tell the stories that matter in the Mile High City? KMGH, The E.W. Scripps ABC affiliate in Denver, Colorado, is seeking a passionate Multimedia Journalist who will research, write, capture visual content and edit compelling stories for our audiences across multiple platforms. As our next MMJ, you'll be at the center of breaking news and important community issues in one of America's most dynamic cities.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Receive assignments or evaluate news leads and tips to develop original story ideas

  • Gather and verify factual information through interviews, observation, and research

  • Organize material, determine focus, and write stories according to editorial standards

  • Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories

  • Edit videos for all multimedia platforms

  • Appear on television programs for taped interviews or narration

  • Deliver live reports from event locations or mobile broadcast units

  • Work cooperatively with photographers when assigned

  • Assist news producers in preparing newscasts

  • Support online staff in preparing multimedia stories

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred

  • Generally, 3+ years of experience in related field preferred

  • Driving required. Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limits

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Computer literacy including newsroom computer systems

  • Videography and non-linear editing experience

  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment

  • Ability to edit video on Final Cut Pro or similar systems

  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills

  • Proficiency in posting content to various websites

  • Self-motivation and ability to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

COMPENSATION RANGE:

Hourly: $39.66 - 41.11


 

Pursuant to state and local salary transparency laws, the salary range posted is specific to candidates who will perform this work in Colorado.
