Job Description

The Network Software Engineer will design, develop, and test network capabilities for combat management systems, including radar and optical sensor systems. The role involves requirements analysis, development, testing, validation, and demonstration of the product. The engineer will be part of the CMS Infrastructure team and will be responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of the network infrastructure. The engineer will work on integrating sensor and weapon systems and creating advanced sensor processing applications. This role requires a candidate with strong analytical skills and a growth and agile mindset. The role involves a combination of remote work and on-site duties in Hengelo, Netherlands.
Must have:
  • Experience with network technologies like Routing, Switching, OSPF, Multicast & Firewalling.
  • Experience with Firewalling, cyber security and compliance regulation
  • Experience maintaining software across Operating System releases.
  • Experience with build pipelines and support tooling (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Maven, Jira)
  • Excellent English communication skills.
Good to have:
  • CCNP certification is a plus.
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification is a plus.
  • Experience with Ansible, certification or demonstratable knowledge is a plus
  • Experience with Software containers & Kubernetes
  • Experience with Confluence

In the heart of our Engineering cluster in Hengelo lies the software engineering department, where we drive the development of cutting-edge combat and information management systems for naval vessels. Our expertise extends to seamless integration with sensor and weapon systems, alongside the creation of advanced sensor processing applications. These sophisticated systems are trusted by global partners, serving to protect lives and uphold the fundamental rights of every individual. At the core of critical operations, our software is the linchpin, ensuring resilience in the face of high-stakes scenarios.

Within the software engineering department, and more specifically for the CMS (Combat Management System) Infrastructure team, we are in search of exceptional talents.

As a Network Software Engineer you will design, develop and test the network capabilities for the combat management system containing radar systems and optical sensor systems. The CMS Infrastructure team is responsible for the entire development chain – requirements analysis, development, testing, validation and demonstrating the current status of the product. The role involves a combination of remote work and on-site duties in Hengelo, Netherlands.

Relevant Experiences:

  • Network Technologies: Experience with network technologies like: Routing, Switching, OSPF, Multicast & Firewalling. (CCNA certification is required, CCNP certification is a plus).
  • IT Security: Experience with Firewalling, cyber security and compliance regulation (e.g., Cisco ASA, OpenScap, Nessus, DISA STIG).
  • Linux: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification is a plus.
  • Software Maintenance: Experience maintaining software across Operating System releases.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Ansible, certification or demonstratable knowledge is a plus
  • Tools and Technologies: Experience with or a willingness to quickly learn the following:
    • Build pipelines and support tooling (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Maven, Jira)
    • Software containers & Kubernetes
    • Confluence
  • Scaled scrum: experience is a plus 

An important requirement to fulfil this role is flexibility and the ability to communicate efficiently in English to all types (technical, management) of stakeholders.
