Applied Materials is a global leader in materials engineering solutions for chip and advanced display manufacturing. We design, build, and service cutting-edge equipment that enables customers to produce displays and semiconductor chips. We are seeking a Physicist/Scientist with expertise in Computational Aided Engineering (CAE) areas like Computational Fluid Dynamics, Heat transfer, Chemical reactions, Finite element analysis, Plasma physics, Computational Chemistry, Electromagnetics, Magnetostatics, or Chemistry. The role involves developing simulation models, analyzing problems, interpreting results, and collaborating with engineering teams to accelerate product development. Responsibilities include validating and correlating simulation results with real-world data, presenting findings, and understanding business unit processes. Must possess in-depth knowledge of at least one CAE area and be an expert user of CAE tools. Experience with programming languages like Matlab, Python, or C/C++ is required, and experience with machine learning, statistics, and semiconductor manufacturing is a plus.
Must have:
  • Modeling and Simulation experience in CAE (CFD, Heat Transfer, Chemical Reactions, FEA, Plasma Physics, etc.)
  • Engineering or Physics background
  • In-depth knowledge of flow, heat transfer, chemical reactions, FEA, plasma physics, computational chemistry, electromagnetics, magnetostatics
  • Expert user of commercially available CAE and analysis tools
  • Excellent communication skills and report writing
  • Technical mindset with attention to detail
  • Experience with programming (Matlab, Python, C/C++)
Good to have:
  • Experience with machine learning, statistics, and design of experiments
  • Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and processes (CVD and ALD)

Basic Skills:

  • Modeling and Simulation experience in one of the following areas of CAE (Computer Aided Engineering): Computational Fluid Dynamics, Heat transfer, Chemical reactions, Finite element analysis or structural analysis, Plasma physics, Computational Chemistry, Electromagnetics, Magnetostatics, Chemistry
  • Candidates from Engineering or Physics background.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Simulation models to analyze the problems related to one or more of the following: flow, heat transfer, chemical reactions, FEA, plasma physics, computational chemistry, electromagnetics, magnetostatics
  • Interpret analysis results with respect to results obtained by lab testing procedures, converting these results into practical design suggestions
  • Works on difficult CAE problems to assist product development
  • Works on identifying product design and development problems where CAE analysis can accelerate development
  • Proactively validates/correlates results with real world data and makes model improvements as deemed necessary
  • Generates high-level engineering test reports and presents CAE results/conclusions to the design/process engineering community
  • Very good understanding of business unit processes and hardware; good knowledge of data analysis techniques to summarize CAE data
  • Ability to interact effectively with a broad range of colleagues such as hardware engineers, process engineers, program managers, and computational scientists
  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services. Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions. Works independently, receives minimal guidance.


Job Specific Knowledge

  • Must have in-depth knowledge of one or more of flow, heat transfer, chemical reactions, FEA, plasma physics, computational chemistry, electromagnetics, magnetostatics
  • Expert user of commercially available CAE and analysis tools
  • Excellent communication skills, Knowledge in writing reports.
  • A technical mindset with great attention to detail
  • Experience with programming (Matlab, Python, C/C++… )
  • Experience with machine learning, statistics and design of experiments is a plus
  • Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and processes (especially CVD and ALD processes) and work experience in semiconductor industry is plus


Qualifications

  • MS/M.Tech/PhD in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical / Chemical / Aeronautical / Physics / Chemistry / Material Science / Applied Mechanics / Electrical / Chemistry or related technical discipline or the equivalent combination of education and related experience

  • Demonstrates conceptual and practical expertise in own discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines

  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
