Job Description

The Policy Communications Manager at Google will be a key member of the Communications team, responsible for developing and executing strategic internal, external, and executive communication programs. This role involves collaborating with leadership and cross-functional teams to understand business objectives and create comprehensive communication plans. Responsibilities include translating complex information into clear, concise messages for diverse audiences, managing internal communication channels (newsletters, intranet content, social platforms, etc.), overseeing social media for senior leaders, and creating high-quality communication materials (press releases, blog posts, presentations). The ideal candidate is a great communicator who can understand complex issues and explain them simply, is quick-witted, entrepreneurial, intellectually curious, and a strong team player.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years in public relations (policy/corporate focus)
  • Experience in public policy/public affairs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Cross-functional collaboration skills

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in public relations, with a focus on policy or corporate communications.
  • Experience in a Public Policy or Public Affairs corporate communications role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with social media.
  • Understanding of policy and regulatory environment, and the impacts on technology companies.
  • Ability to think, plan and execute on multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively, cross-functionally and creatively to overcome problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

About the job

As a member of the Global Communications and Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders; devise specific communications materials and campaigns; engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers; and develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns. We're looking for great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, video scripts and more.

As a Policy Communications Manager at Google, you will be a key member of the Communications team, responsible for developing and executing strategic internal, external and executive communication programs.

We help inform and educate users, advertisers, partners, opinion leaders--and our own employees--about the benefits of Google's products, our distinctive company culture/values and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day. You are quick-witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious. To succeed in this role, you are willing to try new things and can manage numerous projects with tight deadlines. Things happen quickly at Google, and to do great work, you need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work cross-functionally with partners across PR, Communications, Marketing, Product, and beyond.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $134,000-$196,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams across Government Affairs and Public Policy and Legal to understand business objectives and develop comprehensive internal communication plans to support them.
  • Translate complex information into clear, concise, and engaging messages for employee audiences across various locations and functions.
  • Develop and manage a variety of internal communication channels and tactics, including email newsletters, intranet content, internal social platforms, town halls, all-hands meetings, leadership communications, and more.
  • Manage social media platforms for senior leaders by developing content and measuring success.
  • Oversee the creation of high-quality communications materials, including press releases, blog posts, opposite the editorial page, talking points, presentations, and social media content.
