Job Description
As a Policy Development Lead, you'll develop and maintain global policies for YouTube content, focusing on GenAI products and new features. You will evaluate product risk profiles, influence stakeholders, and negotiate policy solutions balancing safety and growth. Responsibilities include leading policy execution to safe launches, proposing strategies to improve Trust & Safety product market fit, and clearly communicating policy challenges presented by new features and emerging online content risks. You'll work with cross-functional teams to operationalize global policies and collaborate with global teams to ensure effective implementation. The role requires navigating sensitive content and contributing across multiple policy areas.
Must have:
- 5+ years policy drafting/enforcement experience
- 5+ years in policy, legal, Trust & Safety, or tech
- Experience with sensitive/controversial policy areas
- Develop, maintain, and update global policies
- Evaluate risk profiles of new products/features
- Influence cross-functional stakeholders
Good to have:
- JD, MBA, or Master's degree
- Experience implementing large-scale projects
- Experience with global teams and cross-functional communication

Job Details
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in drafting or enforcing policy for an online platform or engagement with online public policy issues.
- 5 years of experience in a policy, legal, Trust and Safety, or technology environment.
- Experience engaging in and discussing sensitive or controversial policy/content areas.
Preferred qualifications:
- JD, MBA, or Master’s degree.
- Experience with the development, implementation, and maintenance of policy.
- Experience implementing strategic or large-scale projects in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with global teams and communicating with stakeholders cross-functionally.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.

As a Policy Development Lead, you will seamlessly switch between developing global policies for YouTube content and driving cross-functional projects impacting the global ecosystem. You will bring order and clarity to unstructured or ambiguous problems. The Policy team covers a wide variety of topics, and you will contribute across multiple areas. You will sometimes be involved reviewing graphic, controversial, or offensive video content in line with YouTube’s .
This role in particular will support Policy Development for Cross Product Solutions, focused on new products and high-priority launches including GenAI, commerce and other new areas.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Evaluate the risk profile of new products and features.Develop, maintain, and update our global policies focused on policy requirements for GenAI products and new features, and lead execution all the way to safe launches.
- Influence cross-functional stakeholders and company executives regarding proposed content policy efforts.
- Negotiate and find optimal policy solutions balancing safety and product reach and growth objectives, and work closely with global teams to ensure effective operationalization of global policies.
- Propose new strategies and policies to improve Trust and Safety product market fit to the evolving needs as well as our ability to scale our enforcement.
- Understand and clearly communicate the policy challenges and needs presented by new features and emerging global online content risks.
