As a Policy Lead at Google's Trust and Safety team, you will play a crucial role in shaping and implementing policies related to sensitive content like hate speech, terrorism, and violent extremism. Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience in policy, legal, Trust and Safety, or technology environment
  • 3 years of experience in tech or public policy or policy related
  • 2 years of experience working on violent extremism terrorism, either in an academic setting, public policy or tech
  • Excellent project management and communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex issues into simple, clear language and to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and navigate organizational boundaries
  • Experience with the development, implementation, and maintenance of policy
Good to have:
  • JD, MBA, or Master’s degree
  • Experience in technology companies, public policy, or other similar fields
  • Managing projects at an enterprise level

Trust and Safety team members are tasked with identifying and taking on the biggest problems that challenge the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know-how, excellent problem-solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic team-player with a passion for doing what’s right. You work globally and cross-functionally with Google engineers and product managers to identify and fight abuse and fraud cases at Google speed - with urgency. And you take pride in knowing that every day you are working hard to promote trust in Google and ensuring the highest levels of user safety.

Our team advances cross-product policy development focusing on Google’s highest priority trust risk areas including Child Safety, Kids and Family, Misinformation, Hate and Terrorist content.

This role works with sensitive content or situations and will be exposed to graphic, controversial, and upsetting topics or content.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $125,000-$185,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop and advance first principles that define our positions regarding hate speech, terrorist content, violent extremism and dangerous organizations/movements.
  • Analyze policy issues facing technology platforms and make recommendations on how to address these challenges across multiple Google products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for a wide variety of Google products to ensure policy analysis and recommendations consider all teams perspectives. Resolve high-profile policy issues, coming from the public, users and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Trust and Safety teams and Engineers to influence product decisions and prioritization and improve user experience for policy-related issues.
  • Perform research and collaborate to set industry standards. Deliver awareness and understanding of our product policies within Google and across our user base.
