Job Description

Google's Trust and Safety team is dedicated to protecting users by combating online abuse and fraud across Google products. As a Policy Specialist, you'll play a vital role in safeguarding the integrity of key products like Google Search, Maps, Ads, and more. You'll investigate financial fraud, account abuse, policy violations, and misuse of products, leveraging analytical techniques and custom technology to improve user experiences. You'll collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to shape policies and ensure they align with Google's principles. This role requires a strong understanding of policy development, analysis, and enforcement, with a user-first mindset and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in technology or equivalent experience
  • 7 years of experience in policy analysis, development, maintenance, and enforcement
  • Experience with policy enforcement operations
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment
  • Ability to influence and communicate cross-functionally
Good to have:
  • Experience with policy development and maintenance
  • Ability to grow in ambiguous environments

Job Details

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience with policy analysis, development maintenance and enforcement.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with policy enforcement operations, policy development, and policy maintenance.
  • Ability to operate in a fluid, constantly evolving team environment and to influence/communicate cross-functionally across all levels of management.
  • Ability to grow in an ambiguous environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

As a Trust and Safety Strategist, you are responsible for protecting the integrity of some of Google's key products, including Google Search, Google Maps, Google Ads, AdSense, Google Checkout and Google Product Search. You investigate financial fraud, account-related abuse, questionable business practices, violations of Google's policies, and general misuse of our products. You are introduced to dynamic analytical techniques and you leverage custom-built technology to have a direct impact on improving the experience of millions of Google users. You subscribe to a "user-first" philosophy and are interested in improving Google's user experience and product integrity. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You harness your analytical and technical skills to drive tool development and process improvements.

We partner with teams across Google to deliver bold solutions in abuse areas such as malware, spam and account hijacking. A diverse team of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers, we work to reduce risk and fight abuse across all of Google’s products, protecting our users, advertisers, and publishers across the globe in over 40 languages.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support implementation, and analyze the effectiveness of Policy informed by research by acting as a thought partner with various product and policy areas focused on Generative AI.
  • Collaborate with a wide-range of stakeholders including engineers, product and sales managers, public policy, and attorneys, to reach consensus on various policy issues.
  • Build knowledge in assigned product and policy areas.
  • Resolve high-profile policy issues and escalations from users, the media, government, and internal stakeholders.
  • Influence Product design to build user trust and minimize harm consistent with Google’s core principles and values.
