As a Principal Character Tech Artist at CIG, you'll be part of a pioneering team pushing the boundaries of character and animation technology to achieve the utmost fidelity whilst scaling across an entire universe worth of diverse cultures, unique personalities, and exotic worlds. You’ll be working with cinematic “hero” characters which are digital doubles of legendary AAA actors including the likes of Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, John Rhys Davies, Henry Cavill and so many more. You'll also be driving immersive systems that scale across a massive multiplayer universe for things like player-facing character customization, aliens, creatures, vast crowds and procedural generation to breathe life into entire galaxies. What does a Principal Character Technical Artist at CIG do?

  • Collaborate with Technical Art, Technical Animation, Character Art and Engineering teams to implement the systems necessary to create high-quality, cutting-edge, performant character content.
  • Work to improve and extend established pipelines, utilizing Maya, Houdini, Substance and other tools to implement Characters into the Star Engine.
  • Leverage Python and other languages to develop new tools and enhance existing ones.
  • Champion workflows and processes for technical accuracy of character in Star Citizen and Squadron 42.
  • Collaborate closely with team members, leads and directors across relevant disciplines to ensure tools and characters function effectively bridging the gap between engineering and art.
  • Champion a culture of growth by actively promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

What do we expect from our Principal Character Technical Artists?

  • Someone who is passionate about innovation, improving pipelines, developing new tools, and adapting to new technologies.
  • Proven experience in the game development industry with a focus on relevant technical expertise.
  • Experience with Houdini, Maya, Photoshop, and Adobe's Substance software suite.
  • Proficient in working with scripting and programming languages.
  • Enthusiastic about being part of a passionate team and excels in clear, effective communication.
  • Proven ability to mentor junior staff, providing technical guidance and enhancing their skills and performance.

About The Company

Cloud Imperium Games is a new kind of independent studio dedicated to delivering AAA experiences outside the established publisher system, founded by Chris Roberts, creator of the best selling Wing Commander and Freelancer series, Cloud Imperium is currently developing Star Citizen, a record-shattering crowd funded title that combines classic space sim gameplay with Hollywood-caliber visuals.
