As a Principal Design Quality Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving Systems Engineering and Design Control excellence within Philips’ largest business. You will provide thought leadership to implement state-of-the art business processes, ensuring that innovative solutions find their way to our customers effectively and efficiently, while raising the bar in clinical performance, safety, and quality.
In this role, you will leverage your systems engineering, end-to-end product development and regulatory experience to introduce best practices in requirements engineering, risk management (CTS/CTQ, FMEA), reliability engineering, and verification & validation processes. You will demonstrate architectural and stakeholder management skills to seamlessly integrate business processes with regulatory requirements, systems engineering artefact management and people competencies which will elevate the business capabilities to world-class level.
Your contributions will directly impact patient safety and enhance product quality, reinforcing Philips' position as the leader in minimally invasive and imaging technologies.
You will work alongside senior stakeholders at a strategic level, guiding the design quality and R&D teams toward long-term improvements. Your mentorship will shape the next generation of Design Quality and Reliability Engineering experts, driving innovation and ensuring lasting advancements in medical device development. In this role, you will be reporting directly to the Design Quality Director IGT.
Your role:
Develop and implement Design Quality strategies in the area of Design for Quality, Reliability, Testing, and Manufacturing (DfX for patient safety and product quality improvements) by collaborating across functions and businesses such as R&D, manufacturing, supplier engineering, clinical applications and marketing.
Coach senior colleagues cross functional (R&D, design quality e.g.), enhancing their skills in Design for Excellence (DfX).
Increase awareness and promote a culture focused on patient safety and quality within the global organization.
Lead design quality and reliability improvements in new product introductions and sustaining developments using development performance and post-market data for continuous improvement.
Author and ensure quality plans for system design to meet all compliance standards. Oversee the execution of quality, reliability, post-market surveillance plans, and risk management activities.
Perform technical assessments on product quality performance and post-market analysis. Lead problem-solving and root cause analysis during design and manufacturing. Initiate field actions when necessary to maintain high product quality.
Validate key design inputs such as usability, reliability, performance, and others. Lead target setting for quality and reliability aspects.
Stay updated with the latest approaches to data-driven and model-based product development. Act as a subject matter expert for project teams, business functions, and design quality engineers.
Stay updated and leverage latest industry standards through conferences, training, and networking.
You're the right fit if you have:
A Master’s or PhD in a relevant field such as Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Reliability Engineering.
Minimum of 15-20 years of experience in global, customer-centric product development within regulated industries like medical devices, aviation, or automotive.
A strong track record of collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, supplier engineering, and marketing, fostering innovation and efficiency.
Deep expertise in quality tools and methodologies, including Systems Engineering (MBSE), Design for Six Sigma (DfSS), FMEA, root cause analysis, APQP, and continuous improvement (Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred).
Proven experience in leading and mentoring teams, driving cross-functional collaboration with design, R&D, and leadership teams.
A strategic mindset, aligning design quality initiatives with business goals to promote ongoing improvement and excellence.
