We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to maintain reliable electrical service throughout the Disneyland Resort and offsite facilities. This role involves system engineering, field engineering, and maintenance support for the Resort's electrical distribution systems and central plant systems. You will review maintenance reports, provide technical guidance, and direct restoration efforts during power outages. The position requires collaboration with various teams for special events and operational activities, solving complex problems with innovative solutions. Responsibilities include supporting diverse business lines with electrical questions and code interpretation, being on-call for emergencies, acting as an Electrical Safety Subject Matter Expert, and supporting the Integrated Funding Team with electrical scope for projects. You will also coordinate system assessments, plan and engineer electrical projects, review switching programs, develop and maintain system drawings, and provide recommendations for system improvements.
Must have:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering with power systems emphasis
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) in California
  • 15+ years in electrical equipment design, maintenance, repair
  • Proficient in SKM Power Tools, ArcGIS, energy modeling
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, MS Office
  • Extensive knowledge of NEC, NESC, Title 24, OSHA, ANSI
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience with campus distribution systems, chiller/boiler plants

Job Description:

The position is responsible for maintaining reliable electrical service throughout the Disneyland Resort and offsite facilities by providing system engineering, field engineering, and maintenance support for the Resort's 208V, 480V, 5kV, and 12kV electrical distribution systems and central plant systems. Reviews maintenance and testing reports and provides technical guidance to the Resort’s maintenance teams. Provides timely direction and assistance for the restoration of electrical service following a forced power outage or a State of California mandated load reduction. The role collaborates with WDI and Resort partners for “special events” and other Resort operational activities.  The Principal Electrical Engineer solves unique and complex problems, requiring innovative thinking to develop solutions.  

The engineer in this position will be responsible for the performance/management of the low voltage distribution systems through:
•    Supporting diverse lines of business such as operations, maintenance, Entertainment, and others, with answers to electrical questions, code interpretation, and engineering and/or other design solutions.
•    Being on-call for response to outages or other facility-related electrical emergencies.
•    Acting as an Electrical Safety Subject Matter Expert and as an Electrical Safety Champion
•    Supporting the Integrated Funding Team by determining and defining electrical scope for proposed projects
•    Coordinating system assessments and inspections to evaluate conditions, operations and maintenance requirements; planning, and engineering of electrical projects to comply with applicable standards and regulations. 
•    Reviewing the Utility developed switching “programs” for the isolation of portions of the electrical system needed for maintenance and construction activities. 
•    Developing and maintaining system drawings and standards created by in-house and outside designers for accuracy, adequacy, quality, and completeness. 
•    Providing recommendations for system improvements, enhancements, replacement and ensuring the electrical projects comply with applicable building codes, e.g., NEC, NESC Title 24, CBC, NFPA, OSHA, insurance underwriter requirements, and Disneyland Resort Standards. 
•    Collaborating with Resort partners and outside consultants / contractors for the maintenance of the Resort’s one-line diagrams, power system studies, power management system, and the development of energy management solutions. 
•    Providing engineering support for the Resort’s central chiller, boiler, and compressed air plants. 

Required:
•    BA/BS Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on power systems design and operation. 
•    Professional Engineering License (PE) in the State of California.
•    Minimum of 15 years of experience in the engineering system design, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
•    Experience using computer-based electrical engineering and design tools including SKM Power Tools, ESRI ArcGIS and energy use modeling programs.
•    Proficiency in the use of email, AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office.
•    Extensive knowledge of NEC, NESC, Title 24, OSHA, ANSI etc.
•    Excellent oral, written, listening and communication skills.
•    Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing complex issues to non-technical peers and to leadership.
•    Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.
•    Personal integrity and strong customer focus.
•    Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
•    Experience with distribution systems in a campus environment. Including supporting the efficient operation of chiller plants, boiler plants, compressed air production, pumps, power management systems, circuit breakers, transformers, motors, meters, environmental sustainability, variable speed drive systems, and energy efficiency programs and projects.

Preferred:
•    MA/MS Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on power systems design and operation.
•    Ability to communicate and work with craft labor and contractors to facilitate system repairs and equipment maintenance.
•    Knowledge of medium voltage construction methods and protective devices including SEL protective relays and RTUs.
•    Experience incorporating electrical distribution systems configuration and data into a Geographic Information System (ArcGIS).
 

The hiring range for this position in California is $148,200.00-$183,900.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
