Job Description

The AGI Computing Lab is seeking a Principal Engineer in AI Microarchitecture to solve complex system-level challenges for future AI/ML workloads. The role involves designing and developing scalable platforms to handle computational and memory demands while optimizing energy consumption and performance. Responsibilities include defining micro-architecture, performance, and power specifications for AI accelerators, providing technical leadership in design trade-offs, communicating with stakeholders, driving hardware and low-level software development, and researching emerging AI compute hardware trends. The position requires deep expertise in silicon development and AI accelerator chip design with a focus on mass production.
Must have:
  • Define micro-architecture, performance, and power specifications of AI accelerators.
  • Provide technical leadership in analyzing design trade-offs.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Drive development with hardware and software teams.
  • Conduct research and development in AI compute hardware.
  • 15+ years of experience with PhD or 18+ years with MS or 20+ years with BS.
  • 10 years experience in driving high-performance computing processor design.
  • Lead contributor to mass-produced AI accelerator chip designs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) Computing Lab is dedicated to solving the complex system-level challenges posed by the growing demands of future AI/ML workloads. Our team is committed to designing and developing scalable platforms that can effectively handle the computational and memory requirements of these workloads while minimizing energy consumption and maximizing performance. To achieve this goal, we collaborate closely with both hardware and software engineers to identify and address the unique challenges posed by AI/ML workloads and to explore new computing abstractions that can provide a better balance between the hardware and software components of our systems. Additionally, we continuously conduct research and development in emerging technologies and trends across memory, computing, interconnect, and AI/ML, ensuring that our platforms are always equipped to handle the most demanding workloads of the future. Location:  Daily onsite presence at our San Jose, CA office / U.S. headquarters in alignment with our Flexible Work policy.

Reports to:  Senior Director

What You’ll Do

  • Define the micro-architecture, performance, and power specifications of AI accelerators
  • Provide technical leadership in analyzing various trade-offs within a design space, considering different micro architectural choices and workloads.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including industry experts, customers, users, partners, and management, to ensure that the systems are built to stakeholder expectation, delivered on time and within budget
  • Drive development with hardware design and low-level software teams to ensure that the hardware and software infrastructure is built according to specifications
  • Conduct research and development in emerging technologies and trends in Ai compute hardware
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to hardware and software engineers

What You Bring

  • BS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with 20+ years of working experiences in silicon development or MS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with 18+ years of relevant working experience or PhD and 15+ years of relevant working experience preferred.
  • 10 years experience in driving design for high-performance computing processors.
  • Experiences in being a lead contributor to AI accelerator chip designs that resulted in mass production
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Base Pay Range

$214,060 - $341,940 USD
