The ideal candidate will have a strong background in 3D graphics, scene graphs, and transform mathematics with experience shipping macOS apps. Founded in 2017, Spatial unlocks the full potential of immersive technology to enhance human experience in real world environments. Spatial liberates sound design from linear and channel-based audio, allowing people to do things with immersive sound that have never been done before. Spatial is also looking to the future, where the same intricate and extensive principles of sound for physical spaces can be applied to visual technologies enabling the creation of the ultimate experience simulations.

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to design and build a cutting-edge 3D composition tool for the macOS platform, targeting visionOS as the initial deployment platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in 3D graphics, scene graphs, and transform mathematics, with a proven track record of shipping high-quality macOS apps. As part of our team, you will play a critical role in creating innovative creative tools that empower users and redefine the future of design.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and develop a 3D composition tool for macOS, with a focus on visionOS integration
  • Implement advanced 3D graphics, scene graph management, and transform mathematics
  • Architect software that meet high standards of performance, reliability, and user experience
  • Collaborate closely with product designers to incorporate feedback and iterate on product design
  • Deliver high-quality products from concept to release, with attention to detail and usability
  • Engage directly with customers to understand their needs and continuously improve the product

What You’ll Need:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on 3D graphics and creative tools development
  • Strong proficiency in Xcode and Swift
  • Solid understanding of web technologies, including HTTP and RESTful APIs. Experience integrating web APIs into applications is essential
  • Expertise in 3D graphics, scene graphs, and matrix calculations
  • Experience with RealityKit and Reality Composer Pro is a huge plus
  • Experience with 3D design tools leveraging OpenUSD is also a huge plus
  • Proven experience in designing and shipping high-quality software products
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset, open to feedback and continuous improvement

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Experience in shader programming
  • In-depth knowledge of 3D graphics tools such as Blender, Alias, Epic Unreal, etc
  • Hands-on experience working directly with customers to gather feedback and improve products
  • Familiarity with visionOS development
  • Experience with RealityKit and Reality Composer Pro is a huge plus
