Job Description

As a Principal Engineer, Front End Development at Gemini, you'll be a key technical leader influencing the product's technical direction. You will architect, develop, and advocate for cutting-edge user interfaces leveraging Gemini's AI capabilities. Responsibilities include designing and developing high-performance, scalable web front-end/full-stack architectures, collaborating with product and engineering teams, optimizing web performance, providing technical guidance and mentorship to a team of approximately 40 engineers, and advocating best practices. This role requires expertise in front-end technologies (TypeScript, React, Angular), web testing infrastructure, distributed systems, and experience with large language or multi-modal models.

Must have:

15 years managing large-scale projects
Experience in ML/AI
Front-end expertise (TypeScript, React, Angular)
High-performance architecture design
Team leadership and mentorship

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in CS, Math, or Engineering
Knowledge of web testing infrastructure
Experience with large language models
Passion for AI technology

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
15 years of experience managing large-scale technical projects in the software engineering domain.
Experience in Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence.

Preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering.
12 years of experience in software development.
Experience with front end technologies like TypeScript, React or Angular.
Knowledge of and experience with front-end, web testing infrastructure, distributed systems and architecture.
Knowledge of ML and front-end domain, including experience with large models (language or multi-modal).
Passion for AI technology and all of its possibilities.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

Design and develop high-performance and scalable web front-end/full-stack architectures for Gemini that enable fast-paced product innovation.
Work closely with product managers, UX designers, and back-end engineers to ensure a seamless and beautiful product experience on Web.
Optimize the performance of Gemini's Web surface.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of approximately 40 front-end and application engineers.
Advocate and enforce front-end development best practices and code reviews, staying abreast of emerging front-end technologies and trends.
