As a Principal Experience Design Researcher for Autodesk Construction Cloud, you will shape decisions about what we build and how we build it by developing a deep understanding of construction. You will be responsible for creating and executing research studies across multiple phases of product development, including both generative and evaluative research. You will deliver research strategy that balances business and customer needs and lead analysis and synthesis in ways that incorporate multiple data sources. Additionally, you will create compelling deliverables and artifacts that effectively communicate research insights and work closely with product and design stakeholders in an agile environment. You will socialize research best practices with cross-functional partners, and manage a research roadmap for your domain space, prioritizing research that minimizes product development risk.

Position Overview

As a Principal Experience Design Researcher for Autodesk Construction Cloud, you'll shape decisions about what we build and how we build it by developing a deep understanding and empathy for construction. Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is a platform of web and mobile apps that construction workers and others in the architecture, engineering, construction industries use on the job site, in the trailer, and in the office. Our customers range from architect and engineering firms to general contractors and subcontractors to building and infrastructure owners.

The ACC Experience Research Team's mission is to inform and influence product decisions through rich insights about the behaviors and motivations of our users. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to scope, plan and execute user research that informs design and product decisions. You'll advocate for our users and blend their needs with those of our business, helping drive our well-established and well-respected research team to a higher level of strategic impact.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute research studies across multiple phases of product development, including both generative and evaluative research

  • Deliver research strategy that balances business and customer needs

  • Lead analysis and synthesis in ways that incorporate multiple data sources

  • Create compelling deliverables and artifacts that effectively communicate research insights

  • Work closely with product and design stakeholders in an agile environment

  • Socialize research best practices with cross-functional partners

  • Manage a research roadmap for your domain space, prioritizing research that minimizes product development risk

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proven record in impacting user experience through user research findings

  • Ability to produce exceptional user research deliverables expressed in a portfolio of your work

  • Advanced skills in user research methodologies like interviews, usability studies, contextual inquiry, and generative workshopping

  • Proficient with quantitative research skills like survey writing and data analysis 

  • Strong facilitation skills to help teams navigate the end-to-end design and development process

  • Strong conceptual intuition: identifying the core concepts of a problem or opportunity, guiding teams and individuals to focus on what matters

  • Ability to effectively influence stakeholders at various levels of the organization, including senior directors

  • Excellent visual and oral storytelling skills

  • Minimum 8 years of professional experience in the field of user research and usability

  • Must be able to work PST hours

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For Canada-BC based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $111,200 and $152,900. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
