As a Principal Software Engineering Manager at Microsoft Teams, you'll lead a team building and supporting client release infrastructure, validation gating, and feature flighting across various platforms. This role demands strong technical management skills, including hands-on software design and development (C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Rust, or Python), setting the technical direction, and solving complex problems. You'll guide teams in project planning, release planning, and work item coordination, act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), and ensure product scalability and performance. The role involves partnering with stakeholders to define user requirements and optimizing code for maintainability and ROI.

As a Principal Software Engineering Manager, you will join a global network of leaders working on building and supporting client release infrastructure, validation gating and support feature flighting across multiple platforms, devices, and operating systems. This is a technical management role: it requires managing an engineering team, helping set the technical direction of the team, and hands on software design and development skills. We’re looking for someone who has a demonstrated history of solving hard technical problems and is motivated to tackle the hardest problems in building full stack solutions.  An entrepreneurial approach and ability to take initiative and move fast are essential.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Rust or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • People management experience.

Other Requirements:

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams.
  • Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Guides team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers).
  • Guides team and acts as an expert for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and monitors other engineers across product lines, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
  • Leads product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations and holds accountability for products that do not meet expectations.
