As a Principal Solution Architect at Cognite, you will be a pivotal member of the Technology department within the Global Delivery organization. This customer-facing position involves direct collaboration with key customers, field sales, delivery teams, and product development. You will leverage your seniority and technical competencies to lead Norwegian and international industrial customers, enhancing productivity, profitability, reducing environmental impact, and lowering costs. Your responsibilities include defining solutions, supporting each integration, designing overall technical solutions, and ensuring technical fit within the customer ecosystem. You will also collaborate in identifying account risks, mentor Solution architects, and translate customer needs into product offerings. You will work on implementation of Cognite SaaS offerings and applications and ensure the right data visualization technology and transformation technology is used.
Must have:
- 10+ years experience as an application/data/solution architect
- 3+ years of experience in heavy asset industry required
- Experience with operational data and customer business drivers
- Consulting experience to negotiate requirements with customers
- Experience with enterprise integration or IT integration design
- Data and analytics project experience and able to confidently lead
Good to have:
- Experience with operations, including support and change control
- Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools
- Technical background, willing to contribute code

About the role
As a Principal Solution Architect at Cognite, you will play a pivotal role in the Technology department within our Global Delivery organization. Our global reach includes offices in Austin & Houston, Oslo, Stavanger, and Tokyo. We are a good mix of Project Managers, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Solution Architects with some domain expertise in Oil and Gas, Power, and Manufacturing. This specific role is part of the EMEA Delivery organisation.
In this customer-facing position, you will work directly with key customers, field sales, delivery teams, and product development. You will use your seniority and technical competencies to help to lead Norwegian and international industrial customers to increase productivity, profitability, reduce environmental impact and reduce costs. Our customers are large international process and energy industries, with challenges in asset performance and maintenance, production efficiency, and sustainability. Together with the team, you will define solutions and support each integration through to a successful finish.
A typical day as a Cogniter will contain the following tasks & responsibilities
- As a Principal Solutions Architect, you will be an expert in how we implement our Cognite SaaS offerings and applications
- Your primary responsibility will be to work with project teams to map requirements for a quality implementation ensuring that:
- The right data visualization technology is used in the right way (E.g Power BI, Grafana, Plotly Dash)
- The right data transformation technology is used in the right way (E.g Databricks, Azure, GCP, AWS)
- The data is efficiently modeled and contextualized in Cognite Data Fusion (E.g graph and relational)
- Integrations are well thought out and robustImportant quality criteria for the solution are met (E.g. CI/CD, logging, security)
- Operational responsibility and support agreements for the delivered solution are clearly defined
- Design overall technical solution and ensure technical fit within the customer ecosystem and target architecture
- Design integration and data model using Cognite data connectors, SQL, Python/Java and Rest APIs
- Credible advisor to our customers and partners on Cognite Data Fusion
- Collaborate in identifying account risk, and mitigating actions that could involve product, delivery and management
- Collaborating with Sales, Engineering, and Product Management teams to translate customer needs into product offerings
- Mentor and coach Solution architects in the department
- Insight into relevant laws and regulations that influences our products and solutions
- Insight into relevant laws and regulations that influences our products and solutions
We believe most of these should match your experience
- 10+ years experience as an application/data/solution/enterprise architect
- 3+ years of experience from the heavy asset industry related to downstream, petrochemicals or energy is required
- Experience with operational data and customer business drivers in the heavy asset industry
- Consulting experience that allows you to confidently negotiate requirements with customers and colleagues
- Have experience with enterprise integration, customer relationships or IT integration design
- Data and analytics project experience and able to confidently lead an implementation
- Broad technical experience with data and analytics stacks
- Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools and enterprise analytics stacks (Power BI or similar)
- Experience with operations, including support and change control, as well as experience architecting
- Technical background, willing and able to dive in and contribute code for advanced topics when needed
- Have architectural skills dealing with data modeling and infrastructure solutions, such as classical data warehousing and big data architectures
