About the Role
As a Principal UX Designer, you’ll play a pivotal role in defining the end-to-end experience across Opendoor’s products and services. You’ll be a craft leader and thought partner to product, engineering, research, and business stakeholders—pushing the boundaries of design to deliver experiences that are both delightful and impactful. This role requires vision, systems-level thinking, and the ability to inspire teams to execute at a high bar of design excellence.
What You'll Do
- Elevate the quality of design thinking, craft, and execution across the team by owning and driving operating mechanisms like design reviews and customer experience reviews
- Mentor and coach more junior designers and help them develop and grow as they progress in their career
- Provide input and support to the VP of Design on recruiting and hiring, talent development, and team culture
- Lead design vision and strategy for complex, high-impact initiatives across Opendoor’s customer and partner experiences.
- Drive clarity in ambiguous problem spaces and simplify complexity into elegant solutions.
- Partner with product managers, engineers, researchers, and data scientists to align business goals with user needs.
- Set a high standard for craft, usability, and accessibility across the design team.
- Mentor and coach designers, providing feedback and guidance that raises the bar across the org.
- Influence product strategy with user-centered insights, advocating for design thinking at the leadership level.
- Contribute to the evolution of Opendoor’s design system, ensuring consistency and scalability across products.
- Represent design in executive-level forums, driving alignment around customer experience outcomes.
What You’ll Need
- 10+ years of experience in UX/product design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design leadership.
- Experience shaping strategy and executing across multiple platforms (web, mobile, responsive).
- Proven ability to tackle ambiguous problems and deliver impactful, customer-facing experiences at scale.
- Exceptional communication and storytelling skills—you inspire teams and leaders alike.
- A systems thinker who can zoom between strategy, architecture, and interaction-level details.
- Experience working in fast-paced, cross-functional teams, ideally within consumer technology or marketplaces.
