Summary

The Product Development Engineer II at Mattel is a technical engineering role focused on driving product innovation and developing creative concepts into manufacturable solutions. Knowledge of engineering principles, toy manufacturing processes, materials, and CAD software is essential.

Job Description

The Opportunity: 

This position is a focused, technical engineering role responsible for supporting and helping to drive technical product innovation and the development of creative new product concepts into manufacturable solutions. This position also provides project support to more senior engineers acting as mentors to help gain experience.  This position serves as focal point for driving technical engineering solutions on new product concepts to ensure financial targets, schedule, and adherence to specified safety and quality standards.   The position also drives Brand level value engineering and advanced product quality planning.   The job role serves as a technical engineering liaison with Operations and collaborates with the cross functional New Product Development Team to support efficient flow of new product concepts through the new product development lifecycles.  This job also supports team level corrective action programs administered by CPI.

What Your Impact Will Be: 

  • Provides feedback to design & PMs during initial concept stages to determine feasibility of planned toy.
  • Assists with the development of new mechanisms to achieve toy functionality goals.  Assists with the creation of breadboard models as and when needed.
  • Creation of engineering BOM.
  • Point of contact with dev houses, tooling and plants, providing design guidance (facilitated as needed by Program Execution teams).
  • Assists in translating design vision for toy into technical specs that can be passed on to development houses, tooling, plants.
  • Assists in definition of product function through Functional Spec.
  • Performs routine engineering activities relative to various processes in product development.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For: 

  • BA/BS degree in an Engineering discipline preferred or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of experience in the toys or consumer goods industry
  • Fundamental understanding of common Engineering principles and practices
  • General understanding of toys including automation, tooling, materials, molding requirements, code release, logistics robotics and sound
  • General knowledge of plastic production processes and assembly techniques for plastic product
  • Their thinking is guided by somewhat diversified procedures and specialized standards
  • These jobs or roles are confronted with multiple choice situations, but through prior exposure or experience have learned which choice to apply to each situation
  • Knowledge of various Raw materials; textiles, plastics, etc., in addition to the Manufacturing Process
  • Experience and practice in CAD software (like SolidWorks or Creo).
  • Working knowledge of FEA,  able to read of understand results
  • Understanding of Statistics and probabilities
  • Awareness to toy industry norms and regulation (ASTM and ISO)


The annual base salary range for this position is between $78,400 - $98,000
**This range is indicative of projected hiring range, however annual base salary will be determined based on a candidate’s work location, skills and experience.
