Job Description

Birdy Grey is seeking a motivated Production/Product Development Associate to join their team. This role involves working with the product development and production team to bring product lines to market, collaborating closely with design and technical designers from conception to finalization. Responsibilities include tracking sample development, managing vendor communication for materials, maintaining organized records, preparing and attending fit sessions, and ensuring timely execution of development tasks. The role also supports production processes, tracking purchase orders, liaising with international manufacturing partners, and ensuring quality standards are met. Cross-functional support includes maintaining trackers, organizing documentation, and facilitating communication between teams. The ideal candidate has 2-4 years of apparel industry experience, familiarity with manufacturing processes, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in relevant software.
Must have:

THE OPPORTUNITY: PD & Production Associate

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of PD & Production

LOCATION: LA - Hybrid

Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA with an office in New York, NY, Birdy Grey supports hybrid work for eligible roles. This role will work out of our DTLA office 3-4 days per week. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. #LI-Hybrid

Birdy Grey is seeking a motivated Production/ Product Development Associate to join our talented Product Development and Production team. This role will require working with the team developing and delivering the product lines to market. You will also be working closely with the design and technical designers in developing products from conception to finalization.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Development Responsibilities

  • Track and manage the sample development calendar in coordination with Design and Technical Design teams.
  • Request and follow up on sample yardage, trims, and components from vendors and mills.
  • Maintain organized records of all fit samples, lab dips, swatches, and fabric approvals.
  • Prep samples for fittings, attend fit sessions, and document feedback and approvals.
  • Support communication and file management for tech packs, sample comments, and BOMs.
  • Manage seasonal trim approvals and lab dip submissions in collaboration with Design.
  • Maintain PD trackers to ensure visibility of development milestones and sample status.
  • Organize and maintain the fabric and trim libraries for easy team access.
  • Ensure timely execution of all development tasks aligned with the seasonal calendar.

Production Responsibilities

  • Assist with pre-production processes including PP sample tracking, QC standards, and final trim approvals.
  • Track purchase orders (POs) and delivery timelines across multiple vendors and global regions.
  • Liaise daily with international manufacturing partners (China, Vietnam, and other Asia-based vendors) to manage sample and production flow.
  • Help ensure bulk production meets quality standards, cost parameters, and on-time delivery goals.
  • Coordinate with 3PL and fulfillment teams to support timely and accurate shipping.
  • Maintain and update production Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports to support cross-functional visibility.
  • Enter and maintain item and PO information in the ERP system; process ASNs and monitor delivery updates.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Maintain development and production milestone trackers in tools such as Asana or Excel.
  • Help organize internal documentation and shared folders to ensure smooth hand-offs across departments.
  • Support seasonal launches and facilitate communication between LA- and China-based teams.
  • Assist with departmental projects and administrative needs as required

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE: QUALIFICATIONS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree Required 

EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2–4 years of experience in product development and/or production within the apparel industry (bridal, formalwear, women’s RTW, or loungewear preferred)
  • Familiarity with overseas manufacturing processes and production timelines.
  • Experience working with a range of product categories, including dresses, special occasion wear, pajamas, and getting-ready attire.
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, apparel classifications/duty, and fit processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret tech packs, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and garment specifications.
  • Knowledge of solid and printed fabrics, trims, and textile approvals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, and PLM/product tracking systems; experience with Adobe Illustrator is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail; able to manage and track samples, files, emails, and timelines efficiently.
  • Self-motivated and works well in fast-paced environment
  • Develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with Design, Tech, and Production
  • Must have a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Must be hands on in unpackaging, distributing and filing samples
  • Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform data deep dives to surface actionable insights.
  • Proactive problem solver with the ability to troubleshoot and/or escalate issues effectively.

California Pay Range

$60,000 - $80,000 USD
