Job Description

As a Production Support Engineer at Hogarth, you will provide first-class support to production users, maintaining and troubleshooting workstations and systems. This includes implementing new production environments and assessing new technologies. The role involves working on a flexible rota, including weekdays and weekends, and participating in an on-call system. Responsibilities include downloading software updates, creating application packages, testing applications, patching software, scripting, and documenting processes.
Must have:
  • Knowledge of software licensing models
  • Experience in a Post Production environment
  • Good working knowledge of Mac OS and Windows
  • Experience with JAMF Pro and Smart Deploy
  • Familiarity of license types
Good to have:
  • Knowledge of applications and plugins used by Hogarth Production
  • Knowledge of scripting in BASH
  • Good technical understanding of production workflows

A Hybrid working model

What does a Production Support Engineer do at Hogarth?

As a Production Support Engineer, you will provide first class support to the production users, maintaining and troubleshooting workstations and systems as required, with the aim of providing a stable and fully functioning production environment, either onsite or remotely. You will also be involved in the implementation of new production environments, from workstations to new studios within EMEA.  You will play a key part in assessing new technologies to help optimise our end-to-end production workflow.

The role will be required to work on a flexible rota, being available from 9am to 6pm weekdays, including telephone support and regular onsite support at weekends and for other out of hours production work, including any On Call / Rota system that is required.

Reporting lines and key stakeholders

This role reports to the Production Technology Manager.

You will work closely with all print, digital and moving image teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Downloading latest application and software updates and storing these on IT Admin share
  • Creation of application/plugin packages via JAMF Composer and Smart Deploy software management systems. 
  • Testing applications on Mac OS, Windows and Linux to confirm they work as expected.
  • Patching software against security vulnerabilities and documenting.
  • Scripting pre or post installation scripts where necessary for packages. 
  • Working with System and JAMF Pro admins, to upload and set scope of deployment of packages to Windows and Mac OS systems.
  • Liaising with production to allow for end user testing when possible/required. 
  • Documentation of processes on Hogarth Wiki.
  • Raising CAB tickets were applicable.
  • Liaise with global Engineers to ensure versions are kept aligned across offices.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of software licensing models, including hosting on both physical and virtual machines.
  • Previous experience in a Post Production environment.
  • Good working knowledge of Mac OS and Windows, Linux desirable.
  • Previous experience with JAMF Pro and Smart Deploy including how packages are scoped for deployment.
  • Familiarity of licence types – node locked, perpetual and floating licences. Including knowledge of RLM and other proprietary licence software. 
  • Knowledge of applications and plugins used by Hogarth Production – Adobe Creative Suite, Maxon Cinema4D, The Foundry Nuke, Autodesk Maya, Mudbox and Flame, Side FX Houdini, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve.
  • Knowledge of plugins for above software applications, including but not limited to – Red Giant Complete, Redshift 3D, Arnold Renderer, Keentools Geotracker, NeatVideo, Boris FX Sapphire, Continuum and Mocha Pro, Insydium X-Particles, Chaos Group V-Ray. 
  • Knowledge of scripting in BASH desirable. 
  • Good technical understanding of production workflows for print, digital and moving image.
