The Professional Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for facilitating the development cycle (engineering, procurement, and construction). They will provide quantity surveying duties pre- and post-contract as part of the project team. This role involves performing specific portions of broader projects and guiding Candidate Quantity Surveyors. The role requires expertise in technical aspects such as cost planning, tender documentation, and cost control procedures. The role also includes teamwork, client relationship management, and mentorship of candidates. The role requires at least 5 years of experience.
Must have:
  • Minimum 5 years post qualification experience in a QS function
  • Must be registered as PrQS
  • Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
Good to have:
  • Experience in CostX is advantageous

Job Details

AECOM is seeking a Professional Quantity Surveyor to be based in South Africa's Enterprise Capabilities office in Cape Town. This position will support a team locally based in South Africa and Global Teams. The Professional Quantity Surveyor is required to be facilitate over the programme development cycle (engineering, procurement and construction) and  provides quantity surveying duties pre- and/or post-contract  while working as part of the project team. Performs specific and limited portions of a broader project as an experienced  quantity surveyor.  Guides Candidate Quantity Surveyors on  works and detailed routine.

Technical Excellence:
• Undertakes responsibilities independently and/or under very general supervision, where work is reviewed for soundness of judgement and accuracy
• Provides expertise and supervision utilizing more than one competence on projects of varying scope and complexity
• Provides expertise and supervision with completing the measurement of quantities for input into cost plans, cost estimates and bills of quantities
• Provides expertise and supervision with the preparation of tender documentation
• Provides expertise and supervision with viability studies and cost estimates
• Provides expertise and supervision with implementing, maintaining and monitoring cost control procedures throughout the duration of a project
• Provides expertise and supervision with providing necessary input related to financial claims
• Provides expertise and supervision with evaluating variations, additions and omissions, etc, and incorporating these into monthly cost reports
• Provides expertise and supervision with preparing, pricing and negotiating change orders with clients and contractors
• Complies with all QA requirements
• Benchmarks project data
• Responsible for feasibility estimates, cost planning (presenting with no supervision), contract procurement, tender documentation, value engineering and commercial awareness, fee generation, dispute resolution, and post contract management (competent in cost reporting).
Teamwork:
• Actively looks for opportunities to add value to deliverables, tasks and produces high quality work
• Ensures tasks are completed in a timely manner
• Able to adapt to change
• Mentorship of candidates
• Communicates with clarity & purpose                 
Client Relationship Management:
• Begins to participate in client meetings to discuss project requirements, explain/defend work, etc.

• Minimum 5 years post qualification experience in a QS function

• Experience in CostX advantageou
