The Innovation and Operations Project Manager will manage and execute projects related to innovation and/or major operational initiatives, working within a matrix/functional organization. The role involves planning, executing, and finalizing projects within set deadlines and budgets, coordinating efforts of team members, external suppliers and stakeholders to deliver projects successfully. This includes defining task scopes, monitoring progress, managing project milestones, and providing regular updates to stakeholders. The PM will be responsible for delivering projects to the highest standards while adhering to business guidelines and processes. The success of the PM hinges on early and continuous engagement, clear responsibilities, project authority and following structured/approved business processes.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Formal Project Management qualification (PMBOK or similar)
  • Experience managing multi-functional product development.

Who will you be working with? This position reports to the Global Operations Director. The Innovation and Operations Project Manager (PM) plays a crucial role in managing and executing projects related to innovation and/or major operational initiatives, in Digital Mines Matrix/Functional organization.

RAILS, the business process prevails, but once major (as defined by DM Governance board) projects are approved, the PM will take over and oversee the entire multi-functional process from CP1-CP5.

The role of the PM is to plan, execute, and finalise projects according to strict deadlines and budget. This includes coordinating the efforts of functional team members, external suppliers and other project stakeholders in order to successfully deliver projects.

The PM, while having no direct functional reports, will drive and direct the project resources, and be responsible for achieving deliverables on time and to quality. The respective Functional Managers, who have direct reporting lines with the project team members will ensure functional quality and processes adherence is maintained.

The success of the PM hinges on early and continuous engagement, clear responsibilities, project authority and following structured/approved business processes. By ensuring concurrent development of cross-functional teams, this role will significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the execution and introduction of new products/projects.

Where is the position located? This is Permanent full time position at Eagle Farm Brisbane or Fountaindale, NSW

What will your typical day look like?

  • Engage with all relevant internal stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are consistent with overall project plan and strategic direction

  • Defining task scopes to ensure effective work breakdown and efficient concurrent engineering.

  • Contribute to the planning and achievement of business objectives, goals and priorities, through the application of extensive knowledge of project management methodologies, expertise and experience.

  • Monitor team progress and intervene as appropriate to ensure effective outcomes.

  • Efficient application of team resources to meet organisational goals.

  • Manage projects through all stages of the project management lifecycle: initial conception, business plan approval, resource allocation, planning, project implementation and iterations, field trials, project review and completion, in accordance with business guidelines, processes and approval requirements following Wabtec Digital Mine RAILS process

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with project stakeholders and resources

  • Take responsibility for delivering projects to the highest standard, within quality expectations, while managing project milestones, delivery, budget and stakeholder expectations

  • Provide regular updates and presentations (written and verbal) to project stakeholders and management on progress against milestones, risks to delivery, resource requirements, and project plans

  • Produce project plans in collaboration with team members for approval by management

  • Develop and maintain key internal and external partner relationships critical to the project strategy and success for area of responsibility

  • Anticipate resource needs and plan for support of concurrent development activities and system-wide integration activities

  • Identify and mitigate risks.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related field.

  • Formal Project Management qualification (PMBOK or similar)

  • Relevant direct experience managing multi functional electro-mechanical product development in a matrix organization

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in project management tools and software.
