Zoox is revolutionizing passenger experience in autonomous vehicles with innovative design and autonomous operation. This role involves bringing new ideas and concepts to life by leading projects to design and build prototypes for their autonomous vehicle platform. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams of designers and engineers to enhance the quality and user experience of cutting-edge autonomous vehicles. Responsibilities include creating complex physical design and engineering prototype parts and assemblies using CATIA or SolidWorks, accurately modeling surfaces and geometries, generating detailed drawings for fabrication, and utilizing a range of manufacturing techniques like machining, welding, laser cutting, water jet, and additive manufacturing.
Must have:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in prototyping or model making
- Mastery of CATIA or SolidWorks for prototyping
- Experience driving complex prototyping projects
Good to have:
- Experience with supplier management and development
- Experience with documentation tools like Jira, Azure DevOps, or Confluence
- MIG and TIG welding experience

In this role, you will bring your craft and passion for bringing new ideas and concepts to life, leading projects to design and build prototypes to deliver our autonomous vehicle platform. Through close cross-functional collaboration with our designers and engineers, you will directly contribute to the quality and experience of our cutting-edge autonomous vehicles.
In this role, you will:
- Create highly complex physical design and engineering prototype parts and assemblies in CATIA or SolidWorks
- Accurately model complex surfaces, geometries, and assemblies
- Generate accurate and concise drawings, including prototyping fabrication details
- Utilize a broad range of techniques such as machining, metal fabrication, welding, laser cutting, water jet, and additive manufacturing equipment
- Use and maintain manual shop equipment, additive manufacturing equipment, and CNC machine tools
- Design and build tools and molds for casting or composites, and produce sample parts
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in prototyping or model making for design and engineering
- Mastery of CATIA or SolidWorks for prototyping applications
- Experience driving complex prototyping projects across multiple functions
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with supplier management and development to support Prototyping
- Experience with documentation tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Confluence
- MIG and TIG welding experience
$151,000 - $237,000 a year
Base Salary Range
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. The listed range applies only to the base salary. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
Zoox also offers a comprehensive package of benefits, including paid time off (e.g. sick leave, vacation, bereavement), unpaid time off, Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights, Amazon RSUs, health insurance, long-term care insurance, long-term and short-term disability insurance, and life insurance.
