Gamemode One was founded 7 years ago to do things right in the Minecraft gaming space—especially doing right by our staff, and right by our players. We care deeply about our vibrant company culture, which enables us all to do our best work. The Opportunity

In our growing organization, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the quality and stability of our Minecraft projects. Your deep understanding of games, combined with a sharp analytical mindset, will help uncover issues, refine gameplay and advocate for player experiences.

You’ll contribute by reporting bugs, verifying fixes, and identifying performance concerns—collaborating with teams to track and resolve issues while providing detailed feedback that enhances the overall experience. You’ll have the opportunity to shape and improve our approach to test, our quality standards, and drive continuous improvements at Gamemode One.

This role is best suited for someone with a passion for video games, and who cares about quality.

Within 1 month, you’ll…

• Learn about the various tools and processes used in quality and test
• Begin executing your first test plans
• Attend sprint ceremonies to gain insight into our development process and understand how your role plays a part
• Practice giving and receiving feedback in a team environment
• Understand the present and long-term goals of Gamemode One and how that informs your role
• Demonstrate cultural understanding and values alignment by leveraging inquisitiveness and courage while learning about the company

Within 3 months, you’ll…

• Actively identify, document, and communicate issues effectively by delivering high-quality bug reports
• Successfully recognize and verify bug fixes
• Have an understanding of our product backlog to be able to confidently execute test plans on our past releases to ensure game stability
• Identify and communicate issues discovered by delivering high-quality bug reports
• Verify that bugs have been fixed

Within 6 months, you’ll…

• Support the creation of test plans by using product knowledge to identify key test cases
• Support the team on new products and experiences
• Grow your understanding of test approaches and learn new types of testing
• Develop skills in testing game performance
• Execute testing across applicable Minecraft Bedrock Platforms
• Stay up to date with updates and changes to Minecraft Bedrock
• Advocate for diverse player perspectives by considering different playstyles, accessibility needs, and user experiences

Within 12 months, you’ll…

• Explore future opportunities for growth in the role
• Deepen your knowledge in performance testing
• Contribute to building more robust internal QA documentation

Why our job descriptions look like this

Our job descriptions look different than the average, and that’s on purpose! We find the normal approach to be far too prescriptive. Defining explicit qualifications and requirements would be us defining how you should have acquired a certain skillset. What these generally achieve is intimidating those who don’t fit the mold to not apply. That’s not our style. In an effort to be inclusive, and clear, we take a more descriptive approach.
