This role involves ensuring optimal performance of Google's quantum processors. Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • 2 years engineering/physics experience
  • 1 year calibrating quantum systems
  • 1 year Python programming experience
  • Implement automated calibration systems
  • Calibrate and characterize superconducting qubits
Good to have:
  • Master's or PhD degree
  • 2 years operating qubit systems
  • Experience with superconducting qubits
  • Knowledge of qubit benchmarking techniques
  • Understanding of microwave engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of industry or academic research experience in an engineering or physics field.
  • 1 year of experience calibrating and operating quantum systems.
  • 1 year of experience programming in Python or a related programming language.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience operating qubit systems (hardware agnostic).
  • Experience with superconducting qubits (single and two qubit operations, readout).
  • Knowledge of common qubit bench-marking techniques.
  • Understanding of microwave engineering or pulse shaping techniques.

In this role, you will be a key player in ensuring our quantum processors are operating at peak performance. You will be responsible for the life-cycle of calibration, characterization, and bench-marking, from initial device bring-up to ongoing maintenance and re-calibration. Your work will directly impact the development and improvement of large-scale quantum processors and experimental devices.

The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$178,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain automated systems for re-calibrating large-scale superconducting qubit processors.
  • Work with internal researchers to ensure processors can reliably perform fidelity operations for the experiments.
  • Calibrate and characterize superconducting qubit devices (large and small-scale).
  • Collaborate with researchers to develop, optimize, and improve calibration, characterization, and benchmarking techniques.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to develop tools for understanding calibration and characterization results.
