Job Description

As a Quest Director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, you'll play a crucial role in shaping key features and quests for an unannounced project. Responsibilities include defining and communicating the quest direction, supervising game content (levels, campaigns, quests, etc.), creating objectives and workflows, improving narrative design and player progression, guiding scripting and design teams, and collaborating with various departments (Design, Art, Narrative) to deliver high-quality content. You will also participate in research and optimization of content creation tools and workflows. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in AAA game production, ideally open-world titles, with proven team leadership and communication skills. A deep understanding of game design principles, narrative structure, and player progression is essential.

Ubisoft Bordeaux

Founded in 2017, Ubisoft Bordeaux works with passion on the biggest AAA titles to deliver the best gaming experiences. Today, the studio is composed of 400 talents from 20 different nationalities, working on licenses such as Assassin's Creed, Beyond Good & Evil 2 and a free to play game, BattleCore Arena. At the same time, the studio has set up a Tech branch which works on all Ubisoft's online services (named Online Services) as well as on the Anvil game engine. Ubisoft Bordeaux is also home to a R&D team, La Forge, which brings together engineers and researchers to work together on prototypes for game production, particularly around AI topics.

Job Description

As Quest Director on a project not announced yet, you will be heavily involved in the creation of key features and quests. You will manage the creation of all relevant design content while ensuring that it reflects the artistic and conceptual vision of the project and fully exploits the potential of all game mechanics. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Participate in defining, establishing and communicating the Quest direction in line with the creative vision of the game  
  • Supervise game content, such as levels, campaigns, quests, events and dialogs, with the Lead and other Directors 
  • Create and monitor objectives and workflow 
  • Improve the design of the narrative, the pace of the game, the difficulty, the player progression as well as the consistency of all the mechanics used to create the content 
  • Inform and guide the mission scripting and quest design teams on how to realize and successfully craft the mission gameplay goals into a highly engaging, playable experience 
  • Collaborate with the Design, Art, Narrative Design and Realization teams and the Producers to deliver high-quality content  
  • Participate in the research and optimization of content creation tools and workflows 

Qualifications

As a Director in this field you’re enthusiastic about quality and innovation. You excel at communicating your vision to various stakeholders and developing strategic efforts with your team. You appreciate working in collaborative environments, supporting different professionals. Your team leadership experience equips you to navigate through challenges, provide constructive feedback, and streamline workflows. 

  • Experience in at least one full AAA videogame production, in a supervising role (Director or Associate Director), ideally for an Open World game 
  • Professional experience in supervising/directing a team   
  • Capacity to clearly articulate and communicate a vision and strategy  
  • Key expertise of design, narrative and player progression 
  • Advanced knowledge of content creation tools and workflows
