About the job:
As a Research Scientist, you'll be part of Google's Health AI team, dedicated to improving healthcare through AI. You'll work on large-scale projects, deploying promising ideas quickly and broadly, managing deadlines and deliverables. Your focus will be on developing new and improved products, processes, or technologies in areas like machine learning, data mining, natural language processing, and more. You'll also contribute to the wider research community by sharing and publishing your findings. Specific responsibilities include data analysis/curation, developing research infrastructure, performing experiments, and detailed evaluations. You'll collaborate with clinicians, product managers, and other research/engineering teams within Google and partner teams in Search, YouTube, and Gemini. You'll be developing and improving AI models for challenging health-related tasks, such as grounding and medical factuality, automated clinical evaluations, video/audio understanding, and multi-turn discussions on consumer health topics. Additionally, you'll be responsible for building and improving AI research infrastructure by ingesting new datasets, collecting and analyzing high-quality data, and maintaining training and evaluation infrastructure. Your role will involve performing research on health-related problems with potential for external publication.
Must have:
  • PhD in Computer Science or related field
  • Scientific publication submissions
  • Experience in NLP, ML, or Large Language Models
  • Coding experience in Python, R, Java, or C++

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • One or more scientific publication submission(s) for conferences, journals, or public repositories.
  • Experience in Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, or Large Language Models.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience coding in Python, R, Java, or C++.
  • 1 year of experience owning and initiating research agendas.
  • Experience in the medical domain.
  • Experiences with Large Language Model Development.

The team sees AI as transformational in these fields and a necessary component in improving quality and consistency of health outcomes, realizing personalized medicine. Health AI does research partnering with other Google product teams or external organizations to develop, assess, and deploy AI-powered breakthrough solutions that redefine the relationship between tech and health. The team manages foundational research and product work that improves the lives of users.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000-$200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
