Microsoft's M365 Research team seeks a Researcher II to advance the state-of-the-art in Large Language Model/Generative AI. This role involves conducting novel research, collaborating with scientists and engineering teams to create practical solutions, driving the research agenda from problem definition to model building, and publishing findings in top conferences and journals. The ideal candidate possesses a Master's or PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field, along with experience at top conferences and academic publications. The focus is on scalable and distributed machine learning, modular AI, privacy, security, and reliability in AI. The position offers the chance to impact millions of customers and work within a large, collaborative research environment.

Overview

M365 Research is an Applied Research team driving medium and long-term product innovations. We closely collaborate with multiple research teams and product groups across the globe who bring a multitude of technical expertise in cloud systems, machine learning, privacy, and software engineering. We communicate our research both internally and externally through academic publications, open-source releases, blog posts, patents, and industry conferences. Further, we also collaborate with academic and industry partners to advance the state of the art and aim for material product impact that will affect 100s of millions of customers.


We are looking for a Researcher with background in generative AI, including domain adaptation, scalable and distributed machine learning, modular AI, privacy, security, and reliability in AI, and related areas. You will be one of the key researchers driving the strategy and execution of our research agenda in a team of 40+ world class researchers. You will help drive cross-organizational execution to deliver strong business and academic impact.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in relevant field AND 3+ year(s) related-research experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience participating in a top conference in relevant-research domain.
  • Experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor.
  • Doctorate in relevant field
    • OR equivalent experience.
