Job Description

The Risk and Underwriting Specialist is a vital member of Entrata’s Payment Operations Department. Responsibilities include monitoring bank files, underwriting merchant account applications, performing customer validation, managing merchant account settings, maintaining merchant information, performing quality assurance audits, processing merchant account terminations, assisting in card brand reporting, boarding and monitoring merchants, responding to emails, streamlining processes, and assisting other teams. This role requires attention to detail and the ability to make decisions.
Must have:
  • 2+ years experience in Accounting, Banking, or Payments Industry
  • Underwriting experience in Payment Processing
  • Understand the risk associated with payment processing
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to make decisions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good to have:
  • Ability to read credit reports and financial documents
  • Experience with Lease Management
  • Knowledge of SQL

The Risk and Underwriting Specialist is a vital member of Entrata’s Payment Operations Department specializing in the underwriting, boarding, and monitoring of merchant accounts along with the processing of daily bank files. Our team serves as the facilitator of communication between our merchants, sponsoring banks, and card brand relationships including the assurance that we are adhering to all applicable rules and regulations.

Responsibilities will include:

    • Monitor and confirm bank files daily 
    • Underwrites merchant account applications according to company credit policy as well as industry rules and regulations 
    • Perform customer validation on new and existing merchants including the understanding of OFAC Sanctions Lists and screening
    • Process and manage various requests to merchant accounts 
    • Manage merchant account settings (fees, names, distribution types and times, emails, etc.) 
    • Maintain merchant information in attempt to keep account data up to date on company platform as well as merchant acquirer site
    • Perform quality assurance audits to verify accuracy of merchant settings 
    • Ability to help with various department and company audits
    • Process merchant account terminations 
    • Assists in card brand reporting
    • Board and monitor merchants through our merchant acquirer site 
    • Respond to emails concerning merchant accounts within the promised department service level
    • Looks for ways to streamline or improve processes 
    • Special projects as requested by manager 
    • Assist other team members and other teams as manager requests 

Minimum Qualifications

    • 2+ years experience in Accounting, Banking or Payments Industry  
    • Underwriting experience with an emphasis in Payment Processing (domestic and international preferred)
    • Understand the risk associated with payment processing
    • Strong attention to detail, and ability to make decisions
    • Ability to follow and write standard operating procedures and policies
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite 
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
    • Excellent work ethic with the ability to manage time effectively 
    • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
    • Maintain friendly and effective relationships with merchants and coworkers 
    • Willing to take on new roles, assignments and responsibilities as the department grows
    • Desire to be innovative and have a flare for fun
    • Must be able to work Monday through Friday 9:00am to 6:00pm with the ability to stay late two to five days a month including some holidays where banks are open such as the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Ability to read credit reports, and a variety of financial documents such as tax returns 
    • Experience with Lease Management preferred 
    • Knowledge of SQL


$22.60 - $36.06 an hour
This band covers the full salary range for the role. Your offer within this range will depend on factors like experience, skills, and internal equity.

Currently, Entrata hires in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Texas, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Tennessee for Exempt roles and Arizona, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Texas, North Carolina, and Florida for Non-Exempt roles.
