Job Description

As a Senior Backend Engineer at DPS Games, you'll design and build scalable, robust backend systems for a new AAA free-to-play game in Unreal Engine. Responsibilities include designing microservice architectures, gathering requirements, mentoring junior colleagues, developing deployment infrastructure, and collaborating with various teams. You'll work with real-time communication protocols, message queues, and databases (RDBMS and NoSQL). Experience with game backend architectures (state management, real-time player interactions, matchmaking, leaderboards, in-game economies) and test-driven development is crucial. The role requires strong communication skills, independent work ethic, and successful experience delivering highly scalable systems.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design and build scalable and robust systems that enable and support our new free-to-play game in Unreal Engine.

Reports to

the Lead Backend Engineer.

What will you do?

Design and build scalable and robust systems that enable and support our game.
Gather and analyze requirements together with other stakeholders.
Lead and mentor junior colleagues.
Help develop deployment infrastructure.
Work together with game developers, DevOps engineers, and producers.

What are we looking for?

Hands-on experience of designing and developing microservice architectures to produce scalable, maintainable backend systems.
Kotlin Proficiency, including familiarity with Spring Boot and/or its alternatives.
Good understanding of RDBMS, NoSQL databases.
Experience with real-time communication protocols (WebSockets, gRPC etc), and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ etc).
Experience with test-driven development with a high level of quality.
Experience of developing game backend architectures (state management, real-time player interactions, high load); systems that support matchmaking, leaderboards, and in-game economies etc.
Independent, analytical and a high level of ownership.
Successfully delivered highly scalable systems into production.
Strong communication skills in English.
