The Senior Cloud Network Engineer at Microsoft Azure will develop technical roadmaps for major online/cloud services network infrastructure, create technical solutions for complex system designs, and perform root cause analysis of service interruptions. Responsibilities include prioritizing critical tasks, influencing decisions based on TCO and risk, and driving continuous improvements in networking services through automation. The role requires extensive experience in network design, development, and automation, as well as the ability to meet Microsoft's security screening requirements. This position involves working with massive-scale data center network architecture, software-defined networking, and highly scalable/available/reliable distributed service design/implementation.

As part of Microsoft Azure, the Azure Networking team designs and builds the network infrastructure that powers hundreds of thousands of servers in datacenters around the globe, providing core network infrastructure services for Azure, Bing, and other Microsoft cloud services. In Azure Networking, we are at the very front of Cloud Computing by running one of the largest data center networks in the world.

 

As a Senior Cloud Network Engineer in Azure Networking, you will gain marketable experience in massive scale data center network architecture design, network infrastructure automatic management, software defined networking and high scalable/available/reliable distributed service design/implementation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND Extensive years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND Extensive year(s) technical experience in network design, development, and automation

Other Requirements:

 

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 8+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 6+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • CCNP/CCIE/JNCI certification

Responsibilities

  • Develop a technical roadmap for major online/cloud services network infrastructure.
  • Create and propose technical solutions when faced with a new complex systems design or process issue, where little or no precedent exists.
  • Provide technical expertise to perform root cause analysis of service interrupting incidents; develop and implement strategies to prevent recurrence.
  • Take responsibility for prioritizing critical, competing tasks that may lack clear end results.
  • Effectively apply influence strategies and negotiation skills to impact decisions and make trade-offs based on total cost of ownership (TCO) and risk.
  • Drive continuous improvements of the networking service, drive automation to manage the scale and continue to optimize the efforts through appropriate tooling and automation.
