Job Description

As a Senior Dialogue Designer at Cloud Imperium Games, you will be responsible for recording, editing, and mastering all types of dialogue assets, ensuring consistency across numerous sessions. You will manage dialogue implementation, runtime effects, and dynamic in-game mixing for Star Citizen and Squadron 42. This role requires improving dialogue pipelines and workflows, collaborating with various teams (Facial Animation, Narrative), mentoring junior designers, and reporting to the Dialogue Lead. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in production sound, video game audio design, spectral dialogue editing, and DAW operation. Experience with audio middleware (Wwise) or game engines (Lumberyard) is highly valued.
Must have:
  • Production sound experience (performance capture/film)
  • Video game audio design experience (shipped titles)
  • Spectral dialogue editing (iZotope RXAdvanced or equivalent)
  • DAW proficiency (Reaper, Pro Tools, or similar)
  • Excel skills for file/script management
Good to have:
  • Experience with audio middleware (Wwise)
  • Experience with game engines (Lumberyard)

What does a Senior Dialogue Designer at CIG do? 

  • Record, edit, and master all types of dialogue assets and metadata to a high standard while ensuring consistency is maintained over numerous sessions. 
  • Manage all forms of dialogue implementation, runtime effects design, and dynamic in-game mixing, ensuring an engaging and immersive dialogue experience. 
  • Maintain and drive improvements in all dialogue related pipelines and workflows from pre-production to implementation and QA processes. 
  • Report to Dialogue Lead and Production regularly and update all relevant parties with issues or blockers, as well as info-share in your successes and experiences gained. 
  • Collaborate regularly with upstream teams as well as other content teams like Facial Animation and Narrative to align on project vision and pipelines.
  • Mentor junior designers to keep the whole team motivated and engaged.

What do we expect from our Senior Dialogue Designers? 

  • Well-versed in production sound, especially with performance-capture or film where timecode is required for sync. 
  • Video-game audio-design experience with a priority on games shipped/credited and work at a studio level
  • Solid working experience with spectral dialogue editorial, such as iZotope RX Advanced or other industry equivalents. 
  • Working experience and high-level operation of DAWs such as Reaper, Pro Tools, or other industry standards. 
  • Capability with audio middleware such as Wwise, or game engines such as Lumberyard, is extremely appreciated. 
  • Skilled with Excel for file and script management and an eye for attention to detail. 
  • Passion for dialogue in video games or other forms of entertainment.

Cloud Imperium Games is a new kind of independent studio dedicated to delivering AAA experiences outside the established publisher system, founded by Chris Roberts, creator of the best selling Wing Commander and Freelancer series, Cloud Imperium is currently developing Star Citizen, a record-shattering crowd funded title that combines classic space sim gameplay with Hollywood-caliber visuals.
