Senior DPU Software Engineer role at Microsoft involves developing and enhancing the DPU's security accelerator-related software. Responsibilities include owning and enhancing security drivers, evolving the architecture of the DPU's security accelerator, collaborating with partner teams for seamless integration, providing technical leadership, identifying process improvement opportunities, and ensuring the DPU software stack meets security, performance, and scalability requirements. This role requires expertise in low-level programming, cryptography, security, and distributed systems to deliver cutting-edge solutions for cloud computing. The candidate will work closely with hardware and firmware engineers and system architects.
Must have:
  • 7+ years experience in C, C++, Python, JavaScript
  • 2+ years embedded software development and system design
  • 2+ years SW/HW interfaces, simulations, and systems bring-up
  • Experience with cryptographic tools (openssl, MbedTLS)
  • Develop and enhance DPU's security-related drivers

Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. The Data Processing Unit (DPU) team brings together state-of-the-art software and hardware expertise to create a highly programmable and high-performance ASIC with the capability to efficiently handle large data streams. Thanks to its integrated design, this solution empowers teams to operate with increased agility and deliver significantly superior performance compared to CPU-based alternatives. 

We are looking for a Senior DPU Software Engineer to join our team and help develop and enhance the DPU’s security accelerator-related software. In this role, you will be responsible for the DPU software that directly drives our security accelerators. You will work closely with hardware engineers, firmware engineers, and system architects to ensure the DPU software stack meets the requirements of security, performance, and scalability. You will also collaborate with other teams across Microsoft to integrate the DPU security accelerators into their software. You will apply your expertise in low-level programming, cryptography, security, and distributed systems to deliver cutting-edge solutions that enable new possibilities for cloud computing. 

Qualifications

Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 7+ years technical experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Python, and JavaScript  
  • 2+ years’ experience in embedded software development and system design 
  • 2+ years of experience in SW / HW interfaces, simulations, and systems bring-up 
  • 2+ years working with cryptographic tools such as openssl, Mbed TLS 

 

Preferred 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 7+ years technical experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Python, and rust 
  • Proficiency in embedded software development and kernel expertise 
  • Strong systems design sense 
  • 2+ years of experience with cryptographic hardware accelerators  
  • 2+ years of experience developing deep packet inspection software solutions

Responsibilities

  • Own and enhance the DPU’s security-related drivers 
  • Drive evolution of the design and architecture of the DPU’s security accelerator 
  • Collaborate with partner teams to align strategies, improve processes and ensure the seamless integration of DPU security accelerators in their stack 
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the team, promoting adoption of best practices in embedded and secure software design 
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead initiatives to enhance efficiency and productivity within the team
