The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.
DealBook is hiring a Senior U.S. Editor to play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our DealBook newsletter and helping expand our franchise. You will work closely with Andrew Ross Sorkin, reporters and other editors to assign, edit and produce our daily newsletter and shape its strategy to grow its influential audience and deepen engagement.
You are someone with impeccable news judgment and editing skill, fluency in conversational and explanatory writing, and a keen interest in digital journalism generally and newsletters specifically. You thrive under deadline pressure and can help our team produce the definitive morning read on business news. You will frequently jump in to write original copy, curate and aggregate news, and help package the DealBook newsletter and associated products for maximum impact.
This is a hands-on role that blends assigning, editing, idea generation, strategy and team management. You are comfortable making rapid decisions, framing news with insight and authority.
The DealBook team is split between the U.S. and Europe to give maximum coverage across time zones, and prides itself on being on top of — or ahead of — the news cycle. That often means the work day for the U.S. team is weighted toward the later part of the day (and sometimes into the evening when there is breaking news) in order to produce smart takes on the latest news.
This is a hybrid position based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance. It reports to the Editorial Director, Newsletters.
