Job Description

The Senior Facility Mechanical Engineer at Disney World will support the entire Walt Disney World property, focusing on Facility Operation Services and occasionally working with operating teams. Responsibilities include design reviews, engineering calculations, creating drawings, field installation support, troubleshooting mechanical equipment (HVAC, boilers, pools, kitchens, pumps, fire alarm systems), reviewing job plans, revising drawings, and collaborating on asset management strategies. The role requires proficiency in engineering software (AutoCAD or Revit) and a strong understanding of mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will also actively participate in strategic planning, develop best practices, and provide training to internal stakeholders.

As the Senior Mechanical Engineer, we will be supporting entire Walt Disney World(WDW) Orlando property inclusive of all Facility Operation Services(FOS) organization and occasional Operating Teams. The role involves development of future year work, ongoing project oversight, and sustaining and high technical support to our clients.

You will work for the Manager of Programs Project Design Support.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities include design reviews, hand calculations, creation of engineering drawings, and field installation support. You will also be responsible for assisting with field troubleshooting efforts for facility mechanical equipment (HVAC, boilers, pools, kitchens, pumps, fire alarm, smoke evac) to prevent attraction downtimes, reviewing and approving job plans, and revising drawings, reviewing shops drawings, submittals, specifications, and documentation packages.   • Streamline Design Processes: Implement tools and methodologies to streamline design reviews and engineering calculations. Ability to utilize software for CAD/Revit design and analysis to improve efficiency.
  • Enhance Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment (HVAC, boilers, pools, kitchens, pumps, fire alarm, smoke evac) to quickly identify and resolve issues, reducing downtime.
  • Stay up to date with Industry Standards: Dedicate time to stay updated on the latest industry standards, codes, and leading technology advances through seminars, webinars, and industry publications.
  • Develop Asset Management Strategies: Collaborate with partners to develop comprehensive asset management strategies for facility mechanical systems that encompass full asset lifecycle, replacement planning, and energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Provide Technical Guidance: Act as a resource for project teams by providing technical guidance, advising on standard processes, and facilitating learning sessions.
  • Champion Vendor Relationships: Cultivate relationships with external vendors and consultants to stay informed about new products, technologies, and services that could benefit your projects.
  • Educate Internal Stakeholders: Offer training sessions or workshops for internal project managers to improve their understanding of industry standards, product specifications, and energy goals.
  • Contribute to Strategic Planning: Participate in planning sessions to align business objectives with emerging energy goals and find opportunities for cost savings through life cycle cost analysis.
  • Document Best Practices: Develop and maintain documentation of best practices, standards, and specifications to ensure consistency and quality across projects.
  • Seek Feedback and Continuous Improvement: Regularly solicit feedback from project teams and collaborators to identify areas for improvement and implement changes accordingly.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • PE License
  • Minimum 7+years experience in design of HVAC equipment, plumbing, fuel and gas, ventilation, pools, and kitchen systems.
  • Experience leading processes and solving complex problems.
  • Experience partnering with collaborators and customers.
  • Proficiency in using Engineering and Design software such as AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Strength in performing classical and/or computer-based engineering analysis by applying hand calculations. Heat load calculations, energy model calculations, gas capacity, and heat transfer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in design HVAC equipment, plumbing, fuel and gas, ventilation, pools, and kitchen systems.

Education

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited College or University.
