Job Description

As a Senior Hardware System Reliability Engineer at Google, you'll play a key role in developing reliable consumer electronics. You will collaborate with product and design teams to establish standards, specify tests, oversee execution, and conduct failure analysis. This role requires a strong engineering background, statistical skills, and excellent communication. Responsibilities include translating product reliability goals into testable objectives, managing data analysis and Accelerated Life Testing (ALT), developing performance metrics, leading reliability testing, and driving failure analysis. You'll work on new products used by millions, tackling challenges in pushing technological boundaries. This is a great opportunity for someone excited about building new things from scratch.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • 6+ years reliability/quality engineering experience
  • Experience with contract manufacturers
  • Consumer electronics design and process experience
  • Fluent English communication
Good to have:
  • Master's/PhD in relevant field
  • Experience with DFMEA, FTA, reliability modeling
  • Programming skills (Python, MATLAB)
  • Failure analysis expertise
  • Domestic/international travel

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience with reliability or quality engineering.
  • Experience working with contract manufacturing partners.
  • Experience with consumer electronics design and processes.
  • Ability to communicate in English fluently as this is a role that requires interactions with global teams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • 7 years of experience with reliability or quality engineering.
  • Experience in applying design for reliability techniques such as FTA and DFMEA and reliability modeling techniques such as Reliability Block Diagram, Weibull, ALT.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB or other programming languages for data analysis and hardware tests.
  • Experience with failure analysis techniques for electrical, mechanical or optical components.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

As a Reliability Engineer, you will play a key role in creating new consumer electronic products that meet a high bar for reliability and performance. You will work closely with the product management and design engineering teams to define standards, specify tests, and then supervise test execution and failure analysis. A broad engineering background and command of statistical methods will help to inform design of new products. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills will be key to ensuring adoption of your technical recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Translate product management reliability goals into appropriate testable goals.
  • Manage statistical data analysis, Accelerated Life Testing (ALT) and modeling, and risk assessment.
  • Develop reliability performance metrics and lead management reviews to review progress against those metrics.
  • Lead reliability test planning, methodology and execution for all aspects of the product.
  • Drive the failure analysis process for all failures discovered during reliability testing.
