Job Description

Demiurge Studios seeks a Senior Level Designer with open-world experience to craft engaging gameplay and memorable player experiences for their next action RPG. Responsibilities include designing unique spaces, collaborating on prototyping and iteration, conducting playtesting, establishing design best practices, solving technical challenges, and implementing designs in Unreal 5 using blueprints and PCG. The ideal candidate has 6+ years of experience in open-world game design, expertise in game systems and world spaces, mastery of world-building concepts, and proven Unreal Engine experience (with PCG preferred). Remote work is available, with relocation assistance to Boston potentially offered.

Job Details

Demiurge Studios is seeking a Senior Level Designer with open world experience. Utilizing the game’s mechanics and systems, you’ll craft an inspiring game world and create engaging encounters for the next great Demiurge game. 

The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about world-building and level design and is experienced in all aspects of open-world content creation from whiteboxing and prototyping to final polish.

Remote work is available for this role. Relocation assistance to the Boston area may also be available.

Responsibilities:

    • Craft unique spaces where gameplay flow and visual composition form memorable player experiences that support the creative pillars of the game.
    • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to prototype, iterate, and polish compelling world spaces that enhance the gameplay, encourage exploration, and provide unique encounter spaces.
    • Conduct playtesting sessions to gather feedback for refining your designs. 
    • Establish and document level design best practices and workflows for the game.
    • Solve creative & technical challenges that require navigating ambiguity and production constraints.
    • Ownership of level/world design decisions.
    • Technical implementation of level designs within Unreal 5; utilize blueprints, the Procedural Content Generation (PCG) framework, and other tools as applicable.

Qualifications:

    • 6+ years of experience as a game designer with demonstrable experience creating level/world designs on at least one shipped open-world game. Please submit a portfolio link that showcases your experience!
    • Expertise in understanding the relationship between game systems and world spaces with the ability to build spaces that highlight specific game systems or player abilities in interesting and creative ways.
    • Mastery of fundamental world-building concepts and a strong understanding of how art, color, lighting, and composition can complement gameplay design.
    • Proven experience creating and shipping level/world design content in the Unreal game engine (strong preference for experience with the PCG framework).
    • Self-starter with the ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment and the desire to take an idea from initial concept to launch.
    • Ability to translate feedback from team members, user play tests, and other validation efforts into actionable level/world design iterations.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey designs clearly.
    • Passion for open-world action RPG gameplay!
