Job Description

ByteDance's Applied Machine Learning (AML) team seeks a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to spearhead the development of next-generation AI infrastructure and recommendation platforms for ads, search, live & e-commerce ranking across products like Douyin (TikTok) and Toutiao. This role involves applying and optimizing machine learning algorithms in areas like recommendation systems, advertising, multimodal pre-training, and scientific computing, requiring significant computational resources. You'll collaborate with engineering teams to explore new algorithms and architectures, pushing the boundaries of AI innovation.

Must have:

Proficient in C/C++ programming
Familiar with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow/PyTorch)
Knowledge of deep learning algorithms (CNN/RNN/LSTM/RL)
Ability to solve problems independently
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Motivated, challenge-driven, and innovative

Good to have:

Familiarity with algorithm design in large-scale systems
Practical project experience in recommendation systems, advertising, multimodal applications, or scientific computing

About the team: The Applied Machine Learning (AML) team serves as ByteDance's central AI organization. We conduct focused research and engineering, with the support of massive computation resources, to build and deploy state-of-the-art AI core technologies, including but not limited to LLM, recommendations, etc. Responsibilities: The mission of our AML team is to push the next-generation AI infrastructure and recommendation platform for the ads ranking, search ranking, and live & e-commerce ranking in our company. We also drive substantial impact on the core businesses of the company. 1. Participate in the application and optimization of machine learning algorithms in products such as Douyin (TikTok) and Toutiao. This includes areas such as recommendation systems, advertising, multimodal pre-training, and scientific computing, which require significant computational resources. 2. Collaborate closely with engineering teams to explore new algorithms under new architectures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 1. Proficiency in C/C++ programming skills with a solid foundation, excellent programming style, and work habits. 2. Familiarity with at least one mainstream deep learning programming framework (TensorFlow/PyTorch). 3. Knowledge of deep learning algorithms (CNN/RNN/LSTM/RL, large-scale Sparse&Dense models for recommendation and advertising, etc.). 4. Ability to independently solve problems, possess a strong sense of teamwork, and excellent communication skills. 5. Strong motivation, willingness to accept challenges, and innovative thinking. Preferred Qualifications 1. Familiarity with algorithm design in large-scale systems. 2. Practical project experience in recommendation systems, advertising, multimodal applications, or scientific computing. 【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $184300 - $389500 annually.​
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.​
