Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• Building on top machine learning models that support advanced conversational features, while developing scalable platforms that work seamlessly across various product teams.
• Collaborating on solutions that elevate the core Canva user experience with a focus on optimising conversational AI features.
• Working closely with fellow engineers and cross-functional teams across Canva to design, implement, and refine machine learning solutions from concept to production.
• Delivering a seamless and engaging conversational experience, supporting Canva's mission to make design and creativity accessible to millions of users around the world.
• Helping to define the roadmap of our conversational AI features.
• Designing and leading the development of new features.
• Mentoring and supporting other MLE team members with their work.

You're probably a match if

• You have extensive industry experience in a machine learning /software engineering role with a Product/SaaS company.
• You are experienced in building and deploying machine learning models with a strong understanding of end-to-end machine learning pipelines and components.
• You are proficient in Python coding. Proficiency in Java is a plus.
• You are familiar with several of the following: TensorFlow, PyTorch, sci-kit-learn, Kubernetes, Docker, Solr/ElasticSearch.
• You have a strong understanding of Computer Science/Engineering fundamentals and first principles covering system design, data structures, architecture, and design patterns.
• You enjoy solving problems and can work both independently and collaboratively.
• You have excellent communication skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.
• You have experience in building software, in addition to having deep MLE understanding.
• You stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the industry.

The Conversational Experience group at Canva is dedicated to transforming user interaction through innovative conversational AI solutions. Our mission is to create intuitive communication channels that enrich user engagement and simplify the creative process. By leveraging advancements in natural language processing and machine learning, we design systems that anticipate and respond to user needs in real time, making Canva more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

As part of our team, you will play a key role in developing multimodal solutions that enhance the Canva user experience. Working closely with other AI teams, you'll be involved in creating a scalable platform that personalises interactions and enables meaningful communication.
