As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will be leading a team to build our next generation of scalable AI/ML Platform. You thrive on the challenge of building and optimizing platforms at scale, are deeply passionate about leveraging cutting-edge technologies, and are dedicated to innovation and market success. Your role will involve leveraging your extensive technical expertise and practical experience in AI/ML to lead substantive discussions with product and data science teams, guiding them through the intricacies of functional definition, architecture, solution implementation, and integration within complex environments. With a proven track record in technical leadership, you'll be instrumental in driving high-quality products and ensuring the successful delivery of projects while effectively leading and mentoring team members.

This role will help shape the next generation of checkout at PayPal impacting over 400+ million consumers and 30+ million merchants worldwide by creating AI/ML foundations and capabilities that deliver a delightful and personalized shopping and checkout experience.

Your day-to-day 

We are seeking a highly motivated, self-starter Senior Engineering Manager to lead our AIML Engineering team to help achieve this mission.

• Provide technical leadership & manage a high-performing engineering team to build and scale a highly secure, reliable, and performant AI/ML platform to enable a standardized end-to-end model development and production lifecycle with delightful user experience   
• Hire and directly lead a diverse team of top-tier ML and software engineers, taking charge of all facets of ML product development including ML modeling, data/ML pipelines, productization, and ML monitoring.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, data scientists, and software engineers and stakeholders to define platform requirements and priorities.  
• Develop and evolve engineering processes and collaboration models to optimize team efficiency and collaboration
• Ensure high code quality, performance, and reliability through rigorous testing, code reviews, and adherence to software development best practices.  
• Drive innovation by researching and incorporating state-of-the-art machine learning techniques, tools, and frameworks into the platform.  
• Mentor team members, provide technical guidance, and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.  
• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in AI/ML technology and industry trends and leverage this knowledge to enhance the platform's capabilities

 What do you need to bring 
Qualifications: 

• Proven experience in leading or managing machine learning/AI teams, with a track record of successful project deliveries.
• Solid track record of over-achieving engineering and platform delivery and scaling targets in high volume, innovative and fast-paced high-pressure environment; proven results in delivery on platform products.   
• Masters / bachelor’s in computer science, Computer engineering, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Information Systems, or related disciplines, with technical expertise in one or more of the above-mentioned areas or equivalent practical experience.  
• Strong proficiency in machine learning concepts, algorithms, and techniques, with hands-on experience in developing and deploying machine learning models.  
• Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Java, and proficiency in machine learning libraries/frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, etc.  
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Experience in Azure is a plus
• Experience of big data technologies, open-source data processing frameworks. E.g., Spark, Hadoop, HBase, Elasticsearch, Pig, Hive, and so on.
• Experience of NoSQL databases like HBase, Redis, Aerospike, Vector databases and graph technologies.
• Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, influencing, and alignment driving skills; able to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner  
• Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to inspire, mentor, and empower team members to achieve their full potential.
