The Senior Manager, Mechanical Design will lead the Mechanical Design engineering team in RD Asia, supporting product design and development. Responsibilities include leading projects from design to production, collaborating with internal/external teams, adopting new concepts, modifying existing designs, developing test procedures, and enhancing products based on market feedback. The role requires proficiency in Solidworks, knowledge of complex mechanisms, plastic materials, motors, and electro-mechanical integration. Strong leadership, communication (English and Mandarin), and commercial sense are essential. The successful candidate will have a degree in a relevant discipline (Master's preferred) and at least 10 years of experience in the toy industry, preferably in an MNC buying office environment. Frequent travel is required.

Job Description:

What will you work on?
Lead the Mechanical Design engineering team in RD Asia to support the GBU strategy and development of Product Design and Product Development.

  • Lead the Mechanical Design team in achieving the projects from design to production.

  • Work closely with internal/external counterparts and act as key contact person in providing solutions on product designs.

  • Adopt new concept and take initiate in the research process to identify the best approach to turn the concept into a product that can be manufactured and workable; modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.

  • Develop or enhance existing or new products based on requirements/feedback from Marketing.

  • Conduct Pre-debug on products before tooling start.

  • Consolidate product drawing and costing information.

  • Figure out the most economical method and effective technology to apply to the design.

  • Research new technology applications in the market for new product development.

  • Develop team members by providing coaching, technical guidance, and participation in the hiring and performance management process.

  • Perform and complete other additional project, duties, and assignments as required and/or by request.


How will you create impact?

  • Proficient in designing with Solidworks.

  • Good knowledge with complex mechanisms. Master in 3D modeling method is a must.

  • Excellent knowledge with plastic materials, motors, and common electro-mechanical integration.  Knowledge on softgoods and assembly methods with plastic parts.

  • Establish network with external inventors on new product inventions, materials and latest technology that is useful for RD product development.

  • Strong commercial sense on toy products, with respect to function, aesthetics, and product presentation.

  • Strong leadership skills, consistently driving for technical excellence.

  • Excellent interpersonal skill, able to lead and coordinate across departments.

  • Excellent communications skills in both English and Mandarin.​

How will you fit into the team?

  • Knowledgeable in the toy industry standard and proven track record in developing and launching successful products.

  • Knowledge of DFMEA, DFM and DFA will be preferable.

  • Proven track record in managing a sizable team.

  • Ability to foster a strong working relationship with both internal and external customers.

  • Role entails frequent travel to other Asia offices and suppliers.

What are your skills and experience?

  • Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Manufacturing or related disciplines, Master’s Degree is preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years product design development experience in toys industry, preferably in buying office of MNC environment.
