This role is pivotal in driving Fluence's growth by developing technically sound and commercially competitive solutions for complex energy storage projects. The position requires leading a team of sales engineers, acting as the strategic technical interface with customers, and collaborating with internal teams. Responsibilities include managing the sales engineering function, mentoring the team, engaging with strategic customers, and influencing product development based on market feedback. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in energy storage, excellent communication and leadership skills, and an entrepreneurial mindset to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred)
  • 7–12 years of experience in the energy industry
  • 3–5 years focused on grid-scale energy storage, solar, or power generation
  • Experience managing or mentoring technical teams
  • Strong business acumen and ability to bridge technical complexity with commercial goals
  • Deep understanding of energy storage system design
  • Proven success in leading technical contract negotiations
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
Good to have:
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally

Sales Engineering plays a pivotal leadership role at Fluence, guiding a team of sales engineers and serving as the strategic technical interface between our customers and internal cross-functional partners. This role is instrumental in enabling Fluence’s growth by developing technically sound, commercially competitive, and scalable solutions for some of the most complex energy storage projects in the world.
This is a customer-facing leadership role requiring exceptional technical depth, cross-functional coordination, and people management. You will be responsible for leading the sales engineering function, managing a team, engaging directly with strategic customers, and influencing product development based on market feedback.

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead and manage a high-performing Sales Engineering team that supports equipment-only and turnkey project sales across North America.
  • Serve as the technical strategy lead in the sales cycle, ensuring proposals align with customer requirements, technical feasibility, and commercial objectives.
  • Mentor and develop sales engineers on solution development, customer engagement, and contract negotiation readiness.
  • Oversee the development of technical proposals, including product configurations, performance guarantees, and grid compliance considerations.
  • Review, interpret, and negotiate detailed technical specifications and project requirements, including BOP scope (MV, HV, and civil).
  • Lead technical aspects of commercial negotiations, including performance guarantees, schedules, and scope definition.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Product, Project Execution, Supply Chain, Logistics) to ensure proposed solutions are executable and optimized.
  • Represent voice of customer (VOC) in shaping product roadmaps and sales enablement tools.
  • Ensure operational excellence in the proposal process and act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues.

What will our ideal candidate bring to Fluence?

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering strongly preferred).
  • 7–12 years of experience in the energy industry, with at least 3–5 years focused on grid-scale energy storage, solar, or power generation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or mentoring technical teams in a commercial environment.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to bridge technical complexity with commercial goals.
  • Deep understanding of energy storage system design, grid interconnection requirements, and energy market applications.
  • Proven success leading technical components of contract negotiations (scope, schedule, guarantees).
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, matrixed organization.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
