Job Description

The Senior Manager, Strategic Finance role involves partnering with teams to achieve goals, analyzing performance, and optimizing investments. Responsibilities include developing recommendations through financial modeling, synthesizing data for informed decisions, and driving business growth through initiatives and operational rigor. This role requires strong business partnership, financial insights, and operational performance management. Collaboration with various teams such as Sales, CatEx, Ops, EPD, and Marketing is crucial. The role also requires defining KPIs, dashboards, and OKRs, maintaining and refining business models, and leading strategic initiatives. This position requires commuting to New York City, Los Angeles, or San Francisco hubs.

 šŸŽ About the Strategic Finance team

The Strategic Finance group supports all teams at Whatnot in achieving their goals. This team is responsible for helping define short and long-term goals across the business (GMV, Revenue, Pricing, Margin) and owning the financial health across our categories, countries, and products. The Strategic Finance team sits alongside our BizOps team and works directly with the CEO on major initiatives across the business.

1) Strong Business Partnership

  • Serve as a role model for Whatnot’s Cultural Principles.
  • Collaborate with Sales, CatEx, Ops, EPD, and Marketing teams to analyze performance and optimize investments.
  • Work with stakeholders to uncover high-impact opportunities through quantitative analysis, industry benchmarks, and competitive research.

2) Drive Financial Insights & Analytics

  • Develop actionable recommendations through hands-on analytics, financial modeling, and strategic insights.
  • Synthesize company-wide data into a clear, contextualized view that informs high-impact decisions.
  • Contribute to business planning and go-to-market strategy by identifying key growth and efficiency drivers.

3) Operational Rigor & Performance Management

  • Enhance operational rigor by defining KPIs, dashboards, and OKRs.
  • Maintain and refine business models to support forecasting and accountability.
  • Lead strategic and operational initiatives that drive business growth and scalability.

Team members in this role are required to be within commuting distance of our New York City, Los Angeles, or San Francisco hubs.

As the next member of our BizOps and Strategic Finance family, you should have 5-8 years of overall professional experience with a mix of professional services and start-up experience, plus:

  • Past experience in consulting or finance. Experience working with Sales, Operations, Product, and Marketing teams a plus
  • Strong strategic sense with the ability to balance data driven insights and business instincts
  • Superb financial modeling skills and extensive experience conducting quantitative and qualitative financial analysis. Excellent data skills including strength with SQL is a plus
  • Comfort working exceptionally fast in an ambiguous work environment
  • Ability to operate independently and go deep on projects while also building key cross collaborative relationships across the company
  • Demonstrated  ability to work and influence cross-functionally. You are proactive, great at communicating with different audiences and can bring stakeholders on-board. You seek out and have a track record for driving change and impact in a fluid, unstructured working environment
  • Excellent executive communication skills.  You can show and explain insights to a variety of audience types

šŸ’°Compensation

$190,000/year to $245,000/year + benefits + equity

The salary range may be inclusive of several levels that would be applicable to the position. Final salary will be based on a number of factors including, level, relevant prior experience, skills and expertise. This range is only inclusive of base salary, not benefits (more details below) or equity.
