Job Description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will ensure new products meet seismic, shipping, and mechanical requirements. They will iterate designs based on analysis and testing, support engineering improvements, develop predictive models, conduct optimization studies, and write analysis reports. They will also manage external resources and collaborate with various teams. The ideal candidate will have experience in structural design, finite element analysis, seismic analysis, and mechanical design. They will also have strong problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years experience in structural designs, finite element analysis.
- Proven experience with multi-disciplinary FEA methods.
- Experience with seismic analysis, familiarity with IEEE693.
- Basic knowledge in mechanical design and drafting.
- Expertise in SAP2000 structural analysis tool.
- Strong proficiency with ISO, ASME Y14.5-2018 drafting standards.
Good to have:
- Experience in ANSYS WB & Space Claim tool.
- Experience in Enclosures design, battery energy storage systems.

Job Details
ABOUT THE POSITION
· Ensure the new product compliance to seismic requirements, shipping standards, Fatigue lifecycle study and other mechanical requirements (i.e., transportation loads, wind loads, lifting loads, internal pressure, ice & snow loading, etc.)
· Experience in structural design codes: EN 1993, ISO 1496, IBC-2018, ASCE 7-16, ASTM-D1469 and Convention for Safe Containers (CSC-1972).
· Iterate designs based on results from analysis, testing and provide solutions considering various aspects of engineering.
· Awareness of physical test requirement for seismic, sine-wave test and 3rd party stamping by licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
· Support and provide engineering improvement feedback on design, material selection, design options, failure implications, problem resolutions.
· Perform post-test correlations and corroborate the CAE model to test results
· Develop highly predictive models of materials, process, and functionality to match test results.
· Conduct optimization studies by utilizing optimization tools, including DOE /DFSS techniques on components, sub-assemblies, or on a product-level.
· Write detailed analysis reports for systems and/or components
· Interpret and communicate highly technical information to a diverse audience
· Develop, maintain, and coordinate changes on large assembly FEA models and results within PDM tool
· Manage external resources such as consultants or test labs in testing various aspects of the product such as environmental testing, seismic testing, and arc flash testing.
· Collaborate with other teams including Electrical Engineering, Software Development, Logistics, Procurement, Project Engineering, and Sales on ensuring successful deployments of Fluence products in large-scale energy storage projects.
· Present design solutions to key stakeholders, defending design decisions, incorporating design feedback into the design cycle.
· Demonstrate Fluence values.
· Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging creative problem-solving and experimentation within the R&D team.
What will our ideal candidate bring to Fluence?
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent in technical discipline 5+ years of experience in structural designs, finite element analysis.
- Or a master’s degree in engineering with 3+ years’ related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience with multi-disciplinary FEA methods including linear and non-linear solutions
- Experience with seismic analysis and familiarity with IEEE693 and/or ASCE 7-22/IBC-2021 requirements
- Basic knowledge in mechanical design, drafting and experience in Creo, software and SAP/Windchill PLM tool.
- Expertise in SAP2000 structural analysis tool.
- Experience in ANSYS WB & Space Claim tool is an added advantage.
- Experience in Enclosures design, battery energy storage systems (BESS) is an added advantage.
- Strong proficiency with ISO, ASME Y14.5-2018 drafting standards and GD&T skills
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent English verbal and writing skills and works with minimal supervision while being a collaborative team player. Possesses sound business judgment.
- Comfortable working in a highly dynamic and changing environment and adapt to shifting customer priorities.
- Good presentation skills.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of time
