Thumbtack seeks a Senior HR Business Partner to strategically partner with Engineering leaders, driving people strategies aligned with business goals. This role involves managing employee relations, organizational design, performance management, and workforce planning. The ideal candidate will leverage data to make informed decisions, support organizational change, and collaborate with other HR teams. Key responsibilities include building relationships, deploying people programs, and providing hands-on support to address talent priorities and complex employee relations issues. About the Role

Are you ready to join a collaborative team of HRBPs who are redefining what it means to drive people success? We are seeking a Senior HR Business Partner (HRBP) to join our growing team. This individual will partner closely with leaders in our Engineering organization and other technical teams to drive people strategies that align with business goals. As a strategic and operational partner, the Senior HRBP will play a key role in fostering high-performing, healthy, inclusive, and engaged teams. We are looking for an experienced HR professional who can navigate complex organizational dynamics, build trusted relationships, and deliver impactful people solutions.

In this role, you’ll serve as a thought partner to Engineering leaders, helping to identify and address talent priorities while providing day-to-day support in areas like employee relations, organizational design, and performance management. Success in this role requires strong business acumen, deep HR expertise, and the ability to build trusting relationships and influence effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Partnership: Build strong, trusted relationships with Engineering leaders, partnering to align people strategies with business objectives.
  • Drive Initiatives and Programs: Support and deploy our People programs, including performance management, career architecture, talent management, and learning and development to help build and retain a high-performing Engineering team.
  • Employee Relations: Provide guidance and hands-on support in managing complex employee relations issues, ensuring fair outcomes while mitigating risk.
  • Organizational Design & Workforce Planning: Partner with leaders to assess team structures, design optimal organizational models, and plan for future workforce needs.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making: Leverage people data and insights to diagnose challenges, measure progress, and make informed decisions.
  • Change Management: Support teams through organizational change initiatives, fostering resilience and clarity during transitions.
  • Collaboration Across People Teams: Work closely with colleagues in teams like Recruiting, People Ops, Compensation, Learning & Development to deliver integrated solutions that enhance the employee experience.

What you’ll need

  • 8+ years of HR experience, preferably with a focus on Engineering or technical teams.
  • Strong experience in employee relations, performance management, and organizational design.
  • Proven ability to influence and build trusted relationships at all levels of an organization.
  • Excellent problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, with a data-driven approach.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with data analysis and using insights to inform decision-making.
  • Adaptability and resilience in fast-paced, ever-changing environments.

Bonus points if you have

  • Experience in a fast-growth technology company.
  • Familiarity with remote-first or hybrid work models.
  • Knowledge of compensation practices and workforce planning for global teams.

For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $144,500.00 - $195,500.00.

For candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros or in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the expected salary range for the role is currently $130,100.00 - $176,000.00.

For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $122,800.00 - $166,200.00. Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
